Exactly. And where does this 18 billion figure come from ? 1 hour ago, hawkfanz said: i think it was lee anderson i watched who stated that we purchased the place way back for 3 million,so why would we pay them asgain for something we allready own.saw it on utube speech in commons. Exactly. And where does this 18 billion figure come from ? Satyajit Boolell (born 31 December 1957), also known as Ajit Boolell, is a Mauritian lawyer. He previously served as the Director of Public Prosecutions (2009-2022). Under the Asset Recovery Act, this role is considered the enforcement authority of asset recovery in Mauritius.[3][4] Early life and education [edit] Born on 31 December 1957, Boolell is the youngest son of Satcam Boolell.[5] He completed his secondary education at Royal College Port Louis before studying economics at the University of Essex. After completing a Conversion Degree, he passed the Bar exam and was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 1985. He obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from King's College London.[6] Murky ? Dougy
I am really surprised Trump hasnt popped over and given the idiot a bloody good slap. This MUST not be allowed to go on much longer the bloke is supposed to be looking after the UK and British people, all he's doing is pulling the plug on the entire nation. AND giving away taxpayers money for something we already own, and something the government in Mauritius doesnt even want by all accounts. Labour keep blathering on about this 22 billion black hole in finances, yet seem to be able to find 18 billion for a bribe to take the Chagos islands off our hands ? GrayA
UK lost a court decision and a UN resolution over the Chagos Islands... following which, the Tories entered negotiations to hand them back.... Does the UK obey international law or not? What do we want with them? we've 15 frigates/Destroyers, hardly a naval super power anymore.... , if the Yanks want Diego Garcia, thats for them to sort out, after today, its very clear the US isn't to be relied upon for Europes security anymore. The 18 billion is a figure the Govt denies, it seems very high tbh and over what timescale? the UK is a 2 trillion economy & will need extra billions in defence spend now, if it is to met Trumps demands to go to 5% of GDP, even 3% is a huge increase.... if only the Tories hadn't run down our defences since 2010! even in 2024 their manifesto still supported cuts to the infantry, from 23k to 18k, something no party opposed either. i believe the people who used to live there want their land back.....
