Big_Sam
What you need is a Range Rover Classic V8!! Only £180 a year road tax, cheap insurance, incredible offroad performance for a sofa on wheels! And the 3.9l V8 is a superb engine! Loads of room for gear, and very very comfy! And you can get one for less than a grand as well!
gixer1
Suzuki's are fantastic, they are hardy little ******* and are light, i've seen mine go some amazing places, the only thing they need is a difflock.
V8landy
You call that "off road"? My granny has been more off road than that in her wheel chair. This is me just on a quite sunday after noon drive!

gixer1
that's just a muddy puddle...........probably just before solihull's finest half shaft stripped, the mainshaft stripped, the 2nd gear synchro broke, the first motion shaft seal leaked, the sims heater clapped out, the steel/aluminium mix body rotted away and the dip beam switch was pushed through the floor......and yes, i used to work for what is now called TATA! I'll keep my suzuki...........
George1990
Good show V8landy! Glad to see yet another British classic kept it in tip top condition. If you want a real off roader, not just for bumping up the curb outside the hair-dressers ( ) the landy is the only way. Don't mean to be rude to Suzuki owners, I'm sure they do the job - but really! Half the fun of having a land-rover is getting under it at the weekend, as all parts are available, and if looked after well will last for decades. Hewey
Rayo, Being a former Land Rover fan, well when I say Land Rover I actually mean Discovery, I have owned 3 over the past 5 year's going from a 300 Tdi N plate to a Series II V8 4.0 Petrol and later a "53" Plate TD5, I realised that 22mpg from a Diesel (ok it was an Auto) made little sense when I was doing 20K + miles a year. Don't take the p**s too much but with the Mrs. not really liking to use the Disco when going to Tesco, I ended up selling it and buying a new MPV... Anyway still needed a shooting/fishing vehicle just for weekend work, looked at Jimny's, which I knew just didn't have the space I needed to get my pigeon gear in let alone my Rod bag. I eventually just settled on a 98 "R" Reg Nissan Terrano SWB, I always have the back seats down which means it has a surprisinly lot of room in it for the gear, (other week got 2 peoples kit and 300 dead birds in no problem) that and the fact it's got more ground clearance than my Disco, and even with it being a 2.4i Petrol does 26 mpg (which is all back road and crawling round fields) it's a great little truck. OK changing even an oil filter is a work of art but mine has only 48K miles on it and I paid £1350 for it... bargain I would say and from what I've experienced so far it's VERY good off road it actually feels more sure footed than my 53 plate Disco that had Diff-lock, yep I didn't believe it either.!! Good Luck whatever you choose, just do your homework and try then all. Hewey

Fleabag
Get a sportrak - a cheap and reliable go anywhere wagon. Get a Landy if you fancy your local AA rep and hate having free time at the weekends
Curly87
Nope you are all fools! Get a Lada Niva!! Nothing quite like a bit of Russian engineering! and if you know how to drive it will keep up with any landy This is my little beast...... George1990
And it's about as good looking as a Suzuki!
JR1960
The Jimny is a very able truck, it will go pretty much anywhere with some decent tyres and is small enough to get through areas that bigger heavier trucks will find impassable. If you can live with the size, handling and small engine then definitely get one. You won't rue the cheap insurance, tax, maintenance and fuel bills! And they're great fun as well. I started using Suzukis for shooting in the late eighties and never looked back. seisobs
I must be the odd one out because I have the Jimny, one of the reasons I bought it is I was in an off road club (Had an old Landcruiser) and the lightweight Jimny could go places the big heavy landrovers and Landcruisers couldn't go. Another reason was fuel consumption, 1.2 Litre engine 500+ miles to the tank. I admit the boot is nigh on non existant but as I only use mine for shooting I removed the back seat and cut a sheet of MDF to fit, I can now get all my gear in the back (Lab has to sit on the front seat but she loves it). 5 speed manual, electronic 4WD control which includes a low ratio box. I put a set of all terrain tyres on and she goes places I wouldn't think was possible. I have had it 9 months now and wouldn't buy any other vehicle for shooting.
