mr lee
By some low life scum! Nicked allsorts, even stuff that they probably don't know what the hell it was or of any use to them. Neighbour heard the window smash, phoned them and within minutes they were here. So fair play to them. As police turned on road, lad jumped out of van and took off up the woods and vanished. So far there are 5 police cars and 2 vans out looking for him. Police gave me a good description of him and I'm pretty sure I know who it is. Initial thoughts are to go round to where he lives and beat ten bells of **** out of him. Calmed down thoughts know that aint the best way to deal with it. Just fuming as I will now lose a whole day's pay and work sorting the whole bloody mess out!

mr lee
Cheers guys. Just been out to sweep the glass and poke my head through the window and noticed blood on the steering wheel, door trim and dashboard. Oh and it aint mine... Also noticed where they have got in the interior door panel is a mess from the glass all scratched up and the driver seat base is now sporting a 3" tear in it from where the glass landed and they knelt/stood/ whatever on it. I'm absolutely livid at the mo. Direct line are a bunch of...best stop now before I get banned. sadly its unusual for tools etc to be insured if left in the vehicle overnight. Precisely for the reason that they are easy to steal, best put it down to experience and try and get some sort of system that you can lift out into the house or get a solid bulkhead fitted and back it up to a solid wall etc so the rear doors can't be accessed easily along with alarming it so you hear them have a go
malkiserow
With the DNA evidence and if they have previous convictions then they are likely to be caught .. hopefully before they have off-loaded your gear..... Good luck

Tis the fact the van doesn't have a lockable glovebox so we can't claim for the factory fitted stereo, the fact the seat has been torn when they stood/knelt on the glass because it could have been torn before. What a load of rot! On my policy we do pay extra though for cover of tools (non power ones) to be covered. Power tools aren't covered. Although all mine are on my all risks policy. Biggest annoyance is the 2 days the van is now going to be off the road because of this and lost revenue.
malkiserow
can you get the police to note the seat damage in their report as this may help your seat claim...? just a thought
mr lee
can you get the police to note the seat damage in their report as this may help your seat claim...? just a thoughtI'm getting a written report from a company who valeted it only two weeks ago stating it was in perfect condition then with no signs of wear. Police are coming to take a statement later this afternoon. They think they know who it is already but need to wait the results of the DNA swabs. Also one of the neighbours is happy to provide a statement as she actually saw him. She shouted out of the window at him to get out of my van whilst her hubby called the police. They have already asked her on the phone if she would be happy to do an id when they haul the lad in.

Dougy
i feel for you, I hope you get your stuff back i had a mate coming to fit my kitchen work tops. That's had to be put on hold for a while til i get some one else. Some thieving low lifes nicked all his tools from his garage last week, must have been someone who's been round his house as nobody else would know what or were he had the tools. Cant afford to replace many of the specialists tools, which only the proffesional skilled people would know how to use them.
Pipmoff
I hope they do nail the scrote, but he will probably get a slapped wrist and told not be a naughty boy again when/if he goes to court. I actually scared the theiving scumbag off when I saw the door was open and went in for a chat thinking it was my mate. Was able to give a good description to the plod when they turned up 5 1/2 hours later (actually three of us had to stand in the middle of the road in front of a police car in order to get help). They got him a few weeks ago, and recovered some of the stuff Unfortunately the tools were not covered by his insurance as they were "left out", which sadly seems to be the case for stuff left in vans also. Hard luck mate, hope they catch the *******! ZB Edited September 24, 2008 by Zapp Brannigan

Imperfection
A wee bit of DNA for evidence then Or maybe not. I used to have a modified Calibra turbo years ago and someone tried to steal it one night (it was imobilised so they never got away with it).Two days previous though,i had polished it to a mirror shine including glass and when they broke in-they left two huge hand prints and a face print where they had pressed their face upto the glass before forcing entry through the door. The Police said they couldnt use this as evidence as it could have been a passerby having a look inside my car and that isnt illegal!!! Our human rights have gone way too far. I do hope you get more success than i did.
