Lloyd90
Been looking at a few semi autos, really liking the Benelli M2 Field, onyl problem is I dont see them on alot of gun sites. They have Berettas and other semi's but alot seem to be missing the benelli's. My first choice would be the M2 but was wondering what shotgun you guys are using and what else is good out there ? I liked the look of the Advantage camo benelli M2 with Comfortek stock, any tips or recommendations welcomed
Admiral Von Tirpitz
What sort of budget have you got mate and do you have an FAC ?
Lloyd90
FAC arriving this week lol (I hope, its all cleared) already got SGC Working part time atm (getting about £100 a week, but looking to start full time, possibly full time plus my current job  All in all I was hoping to be able to get it on a credit card and pay it off over a couple months so budget isnt a problem (I hope) Edited October 6, 2008 by Bigthug87
ziplex
Had a Franchi Raptor, excellent gun but I wanted something more suited to wildfowling so px'd it for an M2. It is light, very pointable and has cycled all sorts without a problem so far. Mine has the Max 4 camo which seems like it'll be hard wearing, I really like the gun and feel more confident with it as it fits so well, (with the largest drop shim fitted). I did have reservations initially about recoil but that has proved unfounded, i'd suggest you try one out as the first thing you'll notice is how nice it feels and how well it handles. Very nice gun, if a little expensive.
Lloyd90
Ah a man of great taste, I also will be going for the camo version (or the plain black, leaning towards camo) how much did you pay for it mate ? Also it seems you can only get the 28" barrel not 30". Anything you would recommend, Im really liking the M2, just hoping I can get the credit lol
tweedledee
in this financial climate mate,i would`nt advise you go into debt for a gun,buy a 30series beretta and save the rest buying on a credit card will cost you a fortune if you can t get money in on time for whatever reason.shoot what you can afford, then work your way up to a better gun when you can
throdgrain
This question does get done to death a bit, but for whats its worth I also own a Benelli M2 that I wouldnt get rid of until its actually worn out, which is a long long LONG way in the future. So far I've done well over 10000 cartridges without complaint. It feels well made, shoots and cycles everything (except white gold XLR, no idea why !) its adjustable for poa and length, its just a very very good gun. Lloyd90
Ah but the Benelli is not only a gun that would last a lifetime, but that I would keep a lifetime Im 18, so If I still have it when I'm 50 its still done me well for 30 odd years
triscrx
I used to have a Beretta AL391 that was a very nice semi now I have a Browning B2000 Again very well made and both can be picked up secondhand for good money The cycling of the Browning is pretty good especially for speed loading. Baldrick
The reason you won't see many Benellis is that there is a supply and demand issue. GMK have a big back-log of orders. You'll have a wait for a right-handed M2, but I assure you, it will be very much worth it. Edited October 7, 2008 by Baldrick
southernlad
Second hand Benelli M2 for sale at the Sportsman Gun Centre in Dorset for about a grand if you're interested, looks like a fantastic gun but have no experience of semis so can't say what this one is like compared to others, but they seem to be well liked. Would have it myself but just splashed £1500 on a silver pigeon V... Can't remember if it was black or camo as there were a few semis in the rack and I just had a quick look in passing. cheers SL
butchdickason
I have had my Franchi Hunter for about 20 years, it was second hand when I got it so dont know how much use it had before me, but I have put many thousand of shells through it, only parts replaced have been the mag spring and one cartridge guide, cost £16. You can pick a Hunter up for £100 to £200. As the other lads advise, do not buy your gun on credit, especially as things are so dodgy at the moment. Gun Trader is worth a look at. neil smith
Buy the M2 because someday all auto's will be this good, until then the M2 is the best auto made bar none, Pete Starley in Warwick stocks them & is one of the most competitive priced RFD's around, I have had one a while now & it loves the White gold XLR's in 28g I have not had a failure to feed with them in over 4000 rounds, mine is a 24" with a few mods to improve the handling, I have a Nordic components magazine extension tube & clamp & Nordic bolt handle & a C-Rums extended carrier plate to improve speed loading also an Arredondo oversize bolt release, I have also done some bolt mods to assist with out of battery loading & to allow the extra round "ghost load" giving you the ability to load an extra round below the closed bolt, all usefull mods for practical shooting but some may be usefull on field guns. Whitebridges
On the auto front in the field i've used a Beretta 303 which was a nice gun. Then a Beretta Teknys sporter (nice but too heavy). A few weeks back I traded an AYA Yeoman for a Browning B2000. I absolutely love it. Light, pointable, cycles faultlessly, quick to load. A fantastic hide gun. They can be found secondhand for not a lot of money.
tosspot
Not a big Beretta or Browning auto fan myself but that's just personal choice, own a Remmy 1187 which does exactly what it says on the tin Have heard nothing but praise for the M2 from all quarters

peter-peter
I shoot a beretta urika, a superb reliable gun but the 300 series 302/303. are top class reliable guns that won't skin you. £300 max hold their value dont ned a lot of cleaning. the 303 is top dog over all the others. alternative is a browning gold. also £300 max if you want a hide gun try a browning a series £150 heavy and unbustable. but I say beretta. every time and I have had all the rest.
