Lloyd90
What do you guys think of mods ? My rifle I just bought isn't screw cut and my friend says there not alot of point as it's still pretty loud and won;t make that much of a difference  Im in no rush to add a mod but might do so in the future Just wondering if you guys use mods or if you prefer not to use one Be nice to know what everyone else is using
codling99
go somewhere with your mates rifle, stand hundred yds away and tell him to fire rifle with and with out mod and see what the differance is. a mod does reduce the crack a fair bit . fullbore
I would think Cranfield screwed onto the end of BT's rifle would every so slightly spoil it's balance, no? He'd certainly ruin the aesthetics

Depends if his legs were spread , could be a new form of bi pod (cranfield special)

CZ550Kevlar
I have Mods for my .17hmr & my .22lr which i always use, they never come off, however i have a Rem700 .223 with no moderator and never thought about getting one and just use earplugs when i`m using it due to only firing a few shoots per night so a mod just isn`t worth the money for me. Baldrick
Take it from me (a young bloke who suffers constant and unpleasant tinnitus): use a mod at all times, together with decent ear defenders. You don't get your hearing back, and I did the worst of the damage when I was your age, thinking it wouldn't be an issue. If you haven't yet shot your unmodded .243, 'Thug, you will be surprised at just how loud it is, particularly if you're shooting somewhere where the blast gets reflected straight back into your lugholes. A centrefire rifle blast is significantly more damaging to your hearing than that from a shotgun. So get some Peltor SportTacs first, and get the rifle threaded. Paul223
plus he will reduce muzzle flip.enabling you to see the bullet strike/miss. You on about cranfield again??, is he a 'bean can' or over barrel type moderator :yp: Mods make a good bit of difference, especially if your near to built up areas, as already suggested stand 100 yards ish to the side and see (hear!) wisecobandit
Got a mod on my .22 As for the .243 ive never bothered.I use it for foxes and it doubles up for deer when needs arise. The foxes dont seem to worry or be so jumpy about the noise of a c/f like they do a 12bore for some weird reason?? However if shooting near to ppl or housing i could see why some go for mods due to noise pollution etc. They do work but only take out 10-20 db in sound. That said your talking of something more than 3-4 times the sound barrier so theres nothing thats going to make it very quiet.Im not saying i wouldnt have one tho. In through the derriere. The added advantage is that you can then use his legs as a built in bipod You could say he's a reflex moderator. Just imagine the reflex as you inserted the barrel As well as noise and muzzle flip they also reduce felt recoil. henry d
I have a mod on my .22lr, 6.5x55(wildcat) and have a variation for my .222 to have a mod. I like the lack of recoil it gives the 6.5 and this enables me to hear the bullet strike and I look forward to getting the triple sorted too as I think this will make it very quiet. HOWEVER for aesthetics and weight an un modded rifle looks and feels better as they were designed that way. I wouldn`t like to hike over miles of highland hill with my 6.5 fully kitted up with mod and bipod

Dunkield
Get yourself a rucksack-style double sling, Henry. It's life-changing. I have one of those and still wouln't put a mod on my 6.5 for hill stalking, the sound just seems to dissapear down the valleys and not back like it does at close quarters, and I am not lugging another pound up and down those hills for nothing. I have a mod on my rimfire, as I only ever fire subs I never used it without, and I have a (hopefully) ASE arriving tomorrow for my .223. Horses for courses. Horses for courses. Fair point. But you have that blinking enormous PES T12 on your 6.5, if I recall? That's not a light bit of kit to lug anywhere (particularly if you also insist on wearing your Imperial Stormtrooper uniform on the hill). ASE mods are the way to go.
