lordofthewings
Now that I have joined this forum ( which I enjoy immensly, ) my wife has suggested that if I must continualy moan about the same things over and over again would I please do it on the forum and give her a rest. So here goes. Moan No1. I went to go pidgeon shooting yesterday, walking along the headland I came to where someone had obviously beaten me to it, there was a neat pile of empty cases. If the shooter had time to make a nice tidy heap why the hell did,nt he put them in his bag and take them away. It seems to be the same with formal shoots, piles of empties all over the place, no one seems prepared to clean up after themselves, I feel that my day has been spoiled when I come across this. The worst I came across was when I picked up 229 empties. If I was an anti I would consider this a stick, and I would use it. LOTW. I will get round to the other moans sooner or later. To the moderator I hope this in the correct section lotw
Mungler
I would be concerned...... .......about the day that I started counting the empties I found on my permission 229 eh? I could tolerate 228 but 229 would be the tipping point for me

Baldrick
to go pidgeon shooting Another moan is when you choose a hobby and cant even spell your quarrys name . Even if its written at the top of the page 4 times . The 'pidgeon' mis-spelling also drives me nuts. But so too does the omission of three apostrophes in a post criticising another's SPAG. lordofthewings
I really am indebted to Stokie for his ridicule and humiliation. It is just the way to make someone new to the forum feel at home. A real confidence booster. The next time I see a heap of empties I shall not grumble, but feel proud that the exellent affable person who left them probably knows how to spell pidjin! or pidgin or what ever it is . The same goes for those who shoot peasents and partriges LOTW
lordofthewings
I will apologise to Baldrick, But it was just that, a spelling mistake, I think this was the first time I,ve used this spelling in the forty years I,ve been shooting them. If every post on here were to be pulled apart because of the spelling, on the evidence of those I,ve read, the forum would not have lasted as long as it has LOTW

lordofthewings
Baldrick it was a genuine apology, honest, it,s the type of spelling error that makes me gag, and it will haunt me for a long time. I look forward to the time I can write pigeon without feeling embarresed about my stupidity LOTW
celtic invader
Welcome lordofthewings Do not pay too much attention to some of the comments you will see on this forum - always remember that to some it is a serious way of getting a point across, to others it is an escape from the mental confines of life but to all it is a passion. I too have a dislike for empty shells being left about the place and will pick up those I find left lying about. This got me into trouble at one formal shoot that I was asked to 'pick up' (Pheasants that is) at many years ago. Having come off the first drive with literally hundreds of empties in addition to three and a half brace of birds, I was informed by my host that all the empty cases are left at each peg so that he can see who has had the shooting on each drive. The purpose for this being that the day's drives can then be varied to ensure that all Guns receive a fair share of the shooting throughout the day. I offered to replace the empties but was informed that as an accurate count could not be guaranteed I may as well put them in the bin provided at the courtyard. A mistake I have never since repeated on a formal shoot, but when out rough shooting, wildfowling or just walking the dogs - I still pick up those that I see and curse the inconsiderate plonkers that leave them as a sign of good sport. Ean76
Welcome to PW. The threads often get hijacked or used for people to make them fell superior or something like that.
scolopax
To me pidgeon is a perfectly acceptable way of spelling, well, err, pigeon. Its an older spelling that I would say is unfashionable but definately not incorrect. Just like widgeon and wigeon, most of the antique wildfowling books refer to the bird as the former. Got to agree with your sentiments regarding spent cartridges getting left, it still happens and not only by younger shooter, some of the oldies are the worse offenders. LeeinVA
The bottom line is those people that leave their **** strewn about that ruin it for us that leave the property in better shape then it was found.. We also have the dumbasses that shoot at the farmers line fences, and signs.. I see its not wasted on my side of the pond And, as far as those sophomoric few that did sling sarcasm your way? Dont worry about it dude.. There are more good gents on this forum then bad.. It'll all come around.. And again welcome to PW? PIDGIN Watch? Ferret Master
It's a pet hate of mine. LITTER. Was out fishing a rock mark in Wales for 2 nights running yesterday and the day before, BOTH times I came back with a carrier bag full of rubbish that some dirty vile scummer had left behind after a days fishing. I hope a freak wave sweeps them off the rocks next time and they drown as at least they will bio-degrade. FM

Zapp
LOTW, I too get very pee'd off when I find piles of empties on my permish. Please dont worry about spelling etc on here, make yourself clearly understood first and foremost. If anyone then makes a coherent counter argument you should respond. Ad hominem rebukes - swipes aimed at how you personally word/spell your posts - are best ignored. ZB
