My new wheels

After watching the prices of Landies rise over the last few years and a recent wasted trip to Taunton to drive one back (no brakes and was stuck in 4WD) I am, finally, the happy owner of a 1961 Series 2.

Lucky for me it's in good nick as I don't have Viking's dedication, let alone garage space.

Looking forward to years of trouble free motoring ahead ...

I'm smiling at the moment, anyway.

Yep, it's my first land rover and the first car without Injectors for about 20 years.

Mini 950 (good fun) - wish I still had it.

205 1.9 GTI - lost back end a couple of times (anyone who didn't wasn't trying hard enough)

Fiesta Mk2 1.1 - got married, say no more

New fiesta 1.25 sigma (stg 3 or 4 emissions) - went really, really, well if revved to 4500

Another fiesta 1.25 sigma - **** (new emissions regs killed it)

Escort (with elastic band gearbox) - seemed like a good idea at the time

Dad's old Renault something (19?, seriously can't remember what it was)

Focus mk1 1.4 (I think a genuinely a good car and start for Fords revival)

Mondeo 2.0 Diesel Mk4 - Apart from the DPF, awesome for the 2nd hand money.

I don't want to be rude but that's one hell of an admission of a car history! The Landy, however, more than makes up for it! I hope you love it! Welcome to the club.

I love Landys, yesterday I spent 2 hours changing all the barrel looks on mine as one was playing up cost for 3 barrel locks with 2 keys a total of £11.40 plus £3 postage inc vat. I know they are as good as a chocolate teapot but so I guess I should not be surprised by the price.

I recently fitted a reversing light on mine and connected it to the switch which powers my clock. Now whenever I reverse, I switch the light on and my clock light goes out, but comes back on again when I switch reversing light off! I could rectify it but then again I don't need to know what time it is when reversing, so sod it!

I know if I forget to switch it off as the car behind me flashes his lights! Sorted. :good:

Also mate (another Defender owner) and me recently spent the best part of an hour trying to discover where a high pitched tinny rattle was coming from towards the front of mine, and as anyone who owns a Landy will know, deciding where to start is only the beginning. We eventually found the bonnet hadn't been properly closed after a service and after a good slam all was well again...well, back to an acceptable level of rattles anyhow.

That sounds about right Scully.

Mine never had a fuel gauge only a light for the last 7 years. :good: I now know how much fuel I've got.........it's always on empty any way.

I also had a rattle last week, the screw that holds on the box that fits over the rear lights(inside) come off. Easy fix.

Got home yesterday & an exhaust bracket broke off. Bit longer to fix but can't be asked to get the welder out of the shed, so that will have to wait till after the season finishes.
