MC
I have read about this on another forum. I as yet haven't got a letter, perhaps they know I am skint at the moment. What is it that they are trying to do?
webber
I do generally fully support BASC, but do personally view the media centre as a folly! I trust that they will prove me wrong, but I shall not be making any additional payments. webber
dazza
I got the letter but things are just to tight at the minute to be handing out £40. http://www.basc.org.uk/content/appeal
CEREALTHRILLER
I think the subscription I pay each year for myself and my son is quite alot of money. I won't be making a contribution.
sirusman
Ask some of the people who draw a bloody good salary from BASC to help pay for this white elephant.................bloody cheeky ********

arjimlad
I don't think there are that many organisations other than the Countryside Alliance and BASC which appear, standing up for shooting, in the national media generally, and the BASC seems to be called upon to give statements and interviews more often than many of the other organisations. Compared to the Countryside Alliance, however, BASC appears to me to be underresourced. I was also unimpressed by some of the attacks on shooting the Countryside Alliance made in order to try to keep foxhunting. I think that BASC having a good media facility would be useful and would help get our message across. Having good facilities can make it easier to get stuff published or broadcast. I've yet to see a BASC job advertised with what I would classify as a "fat" salary so I will support this effort where funds permit.
sirusman
Sorry but the membership is now so much higher than than other organisations. I have now joined another organisation , BASC is too bloated now. The top honchos will cling on for dear life
mickanles
after reading the begging letter i was fuming, they couldent just ask for a couple of quid, where did 40 come from, mine went in the bin with the other junk mail, will go else where for my insurance when my renewal is due
andovian
bloody farce! I for one wont be going back to the basc next year after them even asking me to donate what I cant get my head around is why they are spending 750 thousand pounds on a new building surely for a fraction of that cost they could relocate to a factory unit with more space and put the money back into the members where it should be going the whole organisation should be shaken up a bit and get rid of the idiots working there living in cloud cuckoo land!!! like already and rightly said in this thread they take enough money through subscriptions why even ask for more? get rid of the non forward thinker thats the best way they could go forward and take out the fat cats who are obviousley over spending organisation money are they a charity? they are beginning to act like one! sirusman
What i find difficult to understand is that they could not see how many members this begging letter would cost them, oh well they do now
andovian
exactly my point whoever they have in the idea dept should be shown the door! if they are this flippant with an idea that has been thought up to make their own working life nicer (and thats all this is!!!!) how are they going to deal with real life situations when the sport is up against controversey in different situations? They are not the organisation I once thought they were I belive it was founded by some genuine hardworking shooters and countryfolk but is now being run into the ground by a bunch of ****'s! rant over well for now anyway
Mungler
I fear the BASC have sorely misjudged the relevance / importance of this appeal to the average BASC member, the likely reaction and the current economic climate we all now face. A straight begging letter shows no imagination whatsoever in fund raising. I would love to know what the hit / return rate is on this exercise. Yours, not impressed. Essex. babka3487
I am a keen supporter of the basc and support their decision to construct a new media centre. In todays world were everything seems to be controlled/guided by the media I see it as vitally important that the basc keeps up to date where media is concerned as it is ultimately favourable public opinion which will maintain the sport that we all love so much alive in the long term future. It seems every other day the rspb or ill informed presenter/journalist is on tv/in the paper projecting a negative image for shooting sports and indeed country sports as a whole, it is this that the basc needs to counter with appropriate media that demonstrates the other side of the story. However I do agree with some of the previous posts that a begging letter for £40 was a poor and unimaginative fundraising technique, particularly at this time of 'credit crunch'. Mattw
I Did get it and agree with the majority of the prevous posts, I didnt realise it was £40 they were asking for as i binned it before reading that far though. Its a refelx reaction to advertising and begging letters. From the plans I have seen for the new centre I would like to more clearly understand where the 750,000 is being spent as the builiding doesnt seem that big I also wonder if they wouldnt do better to take over the lease on an existing building in a nice office block somewhere centrally located perhaps??? I think there are too many people here looking to slam BASC whenever possible for whatever they do, but also notice no-one else comes up with better ideas. As for the salaries they offer, if people think they are so high I wonder why they are not trying to get a job there themselves? I have never seen an advert for a job with BASC that I thought was paying over the odds. If you pay peanuts, dont expect more than monkeys?? I would ask people complaining about the wages to think for a minute about what would actually happen if BASC cut the salaries to pander to some of the members views. Firstly the higher execs, and people with any nouse about them would be looking to leave and all who would be left would be those that are too lazy / stupid to do anything about it, the voice if shooting would be being run by a bunch of people paid minimum wage, who are disgruntled and really dont give two hoots about the job, Im sure you will agree thats just what the sport needs?? When will people learn ? UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. Stop dividing the shooting community with your views, unless you have something useful to add and lets see if we can work together so my children can enjoy the same pursuits we curently do. Rant off. Rant off. its not a case of slamming the basc for everything they do at all I have backed them for many years but this recent begging has got my back up! I could very easily find them a property that would be suitable for their needs and 750k for a new build is totally unbelivable!! I have had 3 bedroom houses built in the last 3 years for 96 thousand each and a commercial warehouse big enough to house 19 arctic lorrys with equal storage area for 680k so 750,000 is just bull!
