  1. I sit, even to shoot mostly. It depends alot on the position of the seat and how the bird comes in but I always feel I shoot better sitting down. GH
  2. As already said, it's not necessary to vaccinate every year except for lepto. Ours are done as pups and that's it. Problem then is if you want to kennel them, it's likely the kennels will want them done that year. Although some places will take dogs with just the kennel-cough vaccine. GH
  3. Last time out I had just shot a pigeon, looked up to see what I initially thought was another coming in. Turned out to be a buzzard, wings set back, barrelling in at a rate of knots straight onto the bird I'd just shot. It made quite a thud when it struck. If it hadn't have been dead already it would have been after that. I stood up and called 'hey, that's mine!' The buzzard turned to look and flew off without it. I did think after that maybe I should have let it take it but hey... GH
  4. I always saw the curved loop at the top off anyway. Makes it easier to fix the net and I use crocodile clips. I wouldn't worry about broken tops, the pigeons won't care! GH
  5. Got an old N reg,123k on the clock.Pulls well and will do all I need it to.Great fun to drive! GH
  6. Yea4s ago, whenever the wife started getting 'broody', I used to take her shopping 5o Asda in Crewe when the kids were on holiday! Never failed... GH
  7. I've also had good experiences with West Mercia.....a recent move into their erea and a new application for my wife. The first took a month from me informing them I had moved in and the same for getting my wife's through and all present and correct despite the mistakes Cheshire had made!!! GH
  8. Having sold my last(useable) 12 bore I have quite a number of cartridges left so they have to go. I am offering them at around the equivalent of £3.50 per 25 but I need them gone so I'll consider sensible offers. 254 Lyalvale 65mm 30grm #5 (some in boxes made for H G Hopkins, Sandbach but they are LV Exp and cycled in all my autos) 200 lyalvale Exp 65mm 30grm #6 + 108 in H G Hopkins boxes 50 Eley olympics 70mm 28grm #7.5 25 Eley Firsts 65mm 28grm #7.5 21 Eley HB Pigeon in 30grm and 50 in 32grm #6.5 12 Eley high flyers in 32grm and 22 in 30grm 67mm #6.5 and #6 respectively 8 Gamebore Clear Pigeon 70mm 30grm #6 ---------oo0oo------- 100 Eley Grand prix STEEL 70mm #3 PLASTIC WADS 20 Gamebore Multi-shot STEEL 70mm #4/5 PLASTIC WADS (great for teal!) 50 Lyalvale STEEL 70mm #3 PLASTIC WADS Hopefully that is all correct!! I'm afraid its collection only and I am asking £125 for the lot. I will split the fowling carts but reluctant to split the rest. Thanks for taking the time to read all this. Regards GH
  9. I've always known such decoy birds as 'confidence' birds. Use them a lot, thought everyone did?!!! GH
  10. That's the thing about Mickley.....all the stands are covered so you need not get your gun wet at all...., I'll be there tomorrow, hopefully! Hope you had a good day! GH
  11. I really hope so or it will cost me a fortune in fines with my memory being what it is....... What was it I talking about just now? GH
  12. I'd go with the first one. All they mean by checking anyway is looking on their computer records. GH
  13. Damn! Wish I was 14 again...I could shoot straight then!! Sounds like a great opportunity for some! Success breeds success as they say! GH
  14. Finally got to the end of the posts on this thread! A very interesting one it is too! I'll start by saying that I'm pretty much against paying for vermin shooting and definitely siding with Harnser on this. I'm lucky to have a couple of farms to shoot pigeons and crows over, probably around 400 acres or so. It's enough for me and I have never looked for more. I do have other land with rabbits on and I do more bunny bashing than anything else. 400 acres may not be enough for some but when I see advertised, paid shooting 'over 13000 acres' for £90 a day I can't help but think that acquiring that much land is just for the money. It's obviously too much for one person to do an adequate vermin control job on. Then we are always hearing how difficult it is to get permissions.....no wonder is it? That amount of land could be available for others to have their own pigeon shooting, possibly accommodating at least another 20 shooters and probably a better job being done. Which is, after all, is what it's all about in the end! The enjoyment factor is a welcomed added bonus as we all enjoy a good blatt at a few testing birds. I would be only too pleased to share a pigeon hide...I'd enjoy the company. And when I have enough birds around to warrent it I'll be offering the chance. GH
  15. I have 2 20's at the moment. Should be picking up a Beretta this weekend .......for the wife!!!!! Been asking myself why she ends up with a better quality gun than me! Anyhow, I love my 20,s but still shoot better with the 12g auto for some reason although I rarely take it out. I shot some Hull subsonics 21gm last week. Bought them for the wife who has just started shooting a 20g. Really smooth and didn't affect my score much. She loves them so I guess I will be looking for the cheapest deal around. I would like to swap the auto for the same model in a 20 so I will have the full set . GH
  16. Hello and welcome. There must be something in the air at Mickley. My OH started buttoning for me there just after they first opened. Now she's shooting too!!! GH
  17. I've got a bitch fox-red lab. Never had such a keen to work/please and easy to train dog in my life. She lives with another six, mixed bunch and is loyal to me rather than any of the other dogs or my wife who is a dog magnet. She plays with the others but switches into work mode when required and she is spayed so no problems there. As for breeding.....let someone else have all the hassle... She will work as long as I can shoot! Maybe I'm just lucky. GH
  18. Not wishing to put anyone down here but it seems that this has gone the usual way in that each gun mentioned is the best or better according to one or the other of us. Its inevitable in a way as not all guns feel or shoot well for everyone and we tend to buy the one that feels/shoots for us. Then, like me, chop it in for something else if it doesn't meet our expectations. What I'm trying to say is that the only way to be sure which on to buy is try them all(and good luck with that, I think). I think the OP has to try the ones he's been offered at least. Make a choice and start somewhere because, sure as eggs is eggs, it won't be the only auto he buys!! The best of luck anyhow. GH
  19. Nearly went today.....maybe I saved myself a bit of disappointment GH
  20. I have had the 301, 302 and 2x 391,s (an Extrema barreled Urika 2 and my present Urika two) The 302 has the drop-in chokes with a screw-on nut to hold them if. I remember corectly. I found it a bit distracting. Can't recall much about the 301 except that it performed well as did the others. The 391's are far better IMHO, as Dekers said, different feel and, to be honest, a different shooting experience. I would actually part with mine, for the right money, as I'm wanting to go to a complete 20 bore set-up as in O/U, SbS and auto in same gauge. GH
  21. Fuciderm is one but only available from your vet. Then there's Solid gold,Zn2,Dermagel to name a few. There is another old remedy that I've seen advertised but I too can't remember the name of! Begins with a C if memory serves. Good luck GH
  22. Go on, live dangerously......you know you want to!! GH
  23. AYA xxv for me too! Regret selling mine. It was light, fast handling and very pointable. Only got £500 for it so they can be relatively cheap. Mine was in excellent condition with most of the colour left. A classey looking gun imo. GH
