  1. Use PPU until you have enough cases then look out for a second hand Lee Loader and a cheap set of lee scales. £45 max, for both. you do not need anything else to start with. other than a pair of verniers from Aldi for £5. I have been doing just this on the .222 and it is easy, quick and no messing. NJC Neil is the man to ask on the hornet. Phil.
  2. You sure it was nitrogen, my farms spray with a weed killer first to get the grasses and nuisance weeds out then 2 weeks later they will nitrogen it so they are only feeding the rape and not the weeds. the pigeons will feed straight after the weed killers gone on but it can take a little while for them to get back on once the nitrogen has gone on. Phil.
  3. Peas going in today on 2 fields, 4 more to go then 2 of wheat. we have about 500 pigs on the rape at the moment that will not decoy so with luck the wheat will do the job as its the field next to it. over tomorrow again to keep tabs. last year was fantastic so here's to another good year on the pea's Phil.
  4. BFG's all the way for me. i found them for £400 fitted in 31x10.5 r15. i phoned all the people that said they specialize in 4x4 tyres. A few mates have had theirs on for a very long time. i reckon mine will out last my truck.
  5. frank pickles £135 fully comp. you dont need no claims bonus as its a specialist 4x4 insurance. only thing you do need is for the truck to be modified  2gether is another one that is cheap and runs with the same insurance company, Liverpool Victoria. but i had a few problems with them this year not being able to insure the pajero. but frank pickles could
  6. old bucket with lid. 1/4 fill with water and then a spash of jays fluid, all the mess goes in and with no smell. once a week i lift the man hole lid and flush away with hose pipe and job done.
  7. I have been shooting squabs right through the winter. we had one that looked like it had only just left the nest. have to as we are shooting for crop protection
  8. For now i have stopped taking anyone other than that guys im shooting with at the moment. over the last few years i have taken alot of people out, some as big gauges, upto 12 at a time plus ones and twos. i had two people thank me for the time i have put in, looking for birds all week, putting them on flight lines, even carry kit for them. One of the guys i still shoot with, another i understand his bathroom comes first.hehe but thats in now, due to the little thanks i have had and high expectations from some shooters, i not longer take people out, even though i never have charged anyone. Phil
  9. That's a bit off considering Peek-at also sells the 22lr ones. bit rude i say. should have started your own post
  10. OMG :o 1000 5 steel for just over £100 a-max .224 for £7 i have been trying to phone all day to see if he will post the A-max. If i was closer or some was going that way then i would be stocking up on powder, carts and bullets. always the same....miles away
  11. Yep. made a few now. all work on their day, i only really use them now when i have no dead birds to start with. the crow ones work well as well.
  12. Out again on the same feild yesterday. couldn't get close to as one would like so FUD decoys had to be set out at about 40 yards in front and 10 yards to right, the pinewood rotary 20 yards to left. the wind was light to 10 mph off the back and the sun was swinging behind. the plan was that any birds that tried to get into the pattern would swing in between the two and then over the hide. started very well with about 70 birds by 12 noon then it just shut up shop. 4 more hours for 30 more birds. pack up on 100 birds on the buckets. and about 4 lost to the farm behind. this one field has shot well with 233 birds on the two occasions, two weeks apart. the other feild has done even better with 336 birds for 2 goes with 2 weeks in between. over 500 birds in the last 4 trips out. there is one more farm with birds on that hasn't been shot for 4 weeks and then i get a call from farmer today asking me to shoot another farm that been hit hard. happy days? NO! its a bloomin mile walk, uphill, if the birds play ball then its a stupid walk back. no 4x4 can get to the area and farmer will not drive it until its dried out more. Phil
  13. nice shooting there. A friend had just bought a 20g in the same but is having nothing but problems with it. at least 20 miss fires yesterday, click but no bang, not even a dent in the primer even had one cartridge that had a lump of the brass ripped out as it was trying to eject but on a plus side it came with a hush barrle as well so if he can get this cycling problem fixed then its feels and looks a good tool.
  14. still a few left around here. another 100 today. 569 in the last 4 trips out. all off 2 fields.
  15. Have you looked at the pinewood ones. i have had mine a fair few years and their still as good as new. their magent is the best i have ever seen or used as well.
  16. Number them 001-002-003-004-005-006-007-008 with the file name after it. dont over write the calls, cut and paste onto the memory card and then rewrite new calls. I havent have these sort of problems, only problem i have is the batteries. my gosh dosnt it eat them.
  17. If you was bang on then you will still drop going away birds as you will take their wings out. if your plucking the birds then its either under or over on the pattern. as its a going away bird then it would suggest you are over the bird. remember that the angle of the bird is dropping as its going away. put the bird on top of your bead and lean into the shot so you dont have so much recoil pushing the barrel up on you. you cant compare your friends success with a 20g of 5 and your dilemma with 12g of 6 as it could be something as simple as gun fit or, dare i say it, but he might be a better shot with a gun that fits well. I shoot 28g of 7 in 12g semi auto with 1/2 choke for decoying and 30g of 6 in the same gun for flight and roost shooting. i a better than 2:1 ratio on the decoys with very few runners. before wasting money on carts, try and get under the birds that are going away and see if it helps regards Phil
  18. stinging nettles matey. both my cockers did this, the pup still does it. even after an hour, if i take her out in the garden and its wet, she will do it all over again. I was worried the first time i saw it happen but it soon settled down so i just put then in their crates now for 1/2hour after a walk and then their fine.
  19. you better come round here and clean the blumming coffee of my screen you idiot. why the hell do you want to go make a coment like that for, i cant see now for laughing so much.
  20. to give you a date have a look for serial number. the first 2 digits will be year. something like 740789 I just had a quick look on tinternet as i was bored.hehe. have a look on evilbay and look for either 6nu or gnu as some people are interpreting these symbols differently but there is some info in there. have a look at Item number: 130472679362 on the bay. something close All the best Phil.
  21. Get a better ambush point where you can get on to the fox. little tin of cat food scuffed into the ground on the spot you wish to take him at. bear in mind that at night that distances look very differant so pick the spot carefully. no need to squeak it in if its on the same route at the same time. the hard work is as good as done now. Phil
  22. not hard to work out kidda.hehe. Right click the photo and save to desktop. go to image on desktop and double click. once open just right click and look at properties. delete of desk top after if one wishes. I apologize for sound off earlier but it gets my back up. bit out of order on my behave really. sorry gents All the best Phil
  23. I had my first day out ferreting, yesterday, in 25 years. i forgot how much fun it was. we only did a few buries but we still had 5. then one of the ferts was on one in a blockend. 9 foot  10 minutes later a rabbit comes shows but sees a mate and back peddles. it was only single hole in the side of the hill and we had one out already. next the ferret pokes her head out so a quick grab and no digging. leave that rabbit for another day. im not digging 9 foot for one rabbit. knackered today though and hand is killing me from diving onto a rabbit in a black thorn bush. black thorn in the palm of hand and numb fingers and aching wrist today. sorry no photos but rain stopped play. i think we are going to try next week but times against us with spring on way. no young in the tums yet though so we might be lucky. Phil.
