  1. Never seen such a gun before but there's one for sale on Guntrader, they say it's a sideplate but it clearly isn't and I'm pretty sure it's a Prevettato ( translates as "anticipation") anybody ever heard of one before?
  2. Maybe they have upgraded their stocks? I bought my Sceptre around 2-3 years ago in 28G and every gun that I saw at that time had the stock made of several pieces of Walnut bonded together, it's often done really well and not obvious at first glance but, if you looked closely, you can see the join lines. A local dealer had one that was terrible, you could see the join as plain as day and even feel it with your hand.
  3. Not common with other makers no, but every KOFS that I've seen has been so, saw one last year where the grain was running in different directions and it felt awful. I would suggest that anybody buying a KOFS does so after viewing the gun, there's nothing wrong with the practice as it keeps the price down and does the job (replacement Walnut stocks are £70 ish for KOFS) but if you can pick a gun with a nice stock then why not. The example for sale here has stunning wood for a gun of this price.
  4. That's an unusual example, most have stocks made up of Walnut off cuts bonded together (often poorly miss matched) but this one seems like it may have been made for a purpose, maybe a display gun?
  5. Alarms are not compulsory even if you have a large amount of guns, you can put them in several cabinets, in some cases where local cases of burglary are common your FEO can suggest an alarm but, afaik, it is not a legal requirement in any circumstances for private storage.
  6. Many mitigating thoughts on breed type/ compulsory Insurance and Chipping etc but it all boils down to the absolute stupidity of leaving a toddler alone with a Dog, who knows what the child was doing at the time of the attack? Not defending the Dog but any animal will attack if it considers itself under threat, the child could have been taking food from it's bowl or trying to ride it like a horse whilst poking it in the eyes, anything is possible. But tragedy aside, the parent responsible for the child's care should face prosecution.
  7. How bad life has gotten when you have no choice but to put your confidence in a lying, self indulgent, money grabbing waste of Oxygen. I voted him in, in the belief that he was mad enough to make life better, which he has, but only for himself and his ilk.
  8. Try the Aldi flour, it's a fraction of the price (60p/1.5kg!!) and every bit as good as anything else you can buy, try my previous recipe on rapid (1hr55mins) but also try using Olive Oil instead of butter to reduce salt. For wholemeal (60p/1.5kg Aldi) same cycle but 350 grams wholemeal 150 grams white, 350ml water and 25 grams of butter instead of Olive Oil, makes a stunning loaf. I always use a level teaspoon of flour improver in all my loaves.
  9. Both my parents worked and we went to school no matter what we were suffering from, my mother actually told us that if we couldn't walk she would carry us to school. In all my school days, primary and secondary, I was off sick for 5 days when I collapsed with Diabetes in secondary and 1 day in junior school for emotional reasons when my best friend died running to the canteen at lunchtime.

    John Bercow

From my personal experience I have nothing but admiration for the man. Long time ago (17 years) I suffered Renal failure and lost my job as an engineer, I was put on job seekers but my Doctor would not sign me fit for work so the ridiculous process of applying for jobs that I knew my Doctor would prevent me from taking started. I underwent a medical at the DHSS local office and the Doctor there said I could work, for example, in a car park checking tickets etc so deemed me fit for work, but my GP still refused to sign me fit. In desperation I made an appointment with Mr Bercow (our local MP at the time) and the man was a godsend, within weeks I had a letter from the DHSS apologising for their harsh treatment and accepting me as long term disabled, but Bercow had not finished, with his guidance we took the DHSS to court and successfully sued for professional incompetence and they were made to pay just over £4k in damages. So I like the man, he saved my life in a way.
  11. I've been driving with my one eye for 23 years. Appealing to DVLA rarely seems successful looking on the internet, DVLA give a number to ring for advice but I've been ringing that for the 8 months that they took to process my application for renewal and never got through. Might give CAB a try but legal route is impossible for me, my various disabilities prevent me from working anymore and I get £59/week from DHSS. Thank you for all your sympathy and support, it helps more than you might know.
  12. Annoying thing is, Mice, that my eyesight is better than most people that I know. I lost an eye 20+ years ago and recently DVLA have seemed hell bent on revoking my licence. I can read a car plate at twice the required distance and that should be enough (more than for a normal person), but DVLA (who still send me Diabetic questionnaire's every year despite me being cured 16 years ago) make me jump through several different hoops that few people have to - they even booked me into the local hospital ophthalmic clinic from which I was discharged in 2016. To my mind this is Disability discrimination, they have found a blind spot but they say that if I can prove I have adapted they will reconsider but if my licence is returned it will be provisional!! Till this happened I had been driving every day, riding my Ducati 900 at weekends and have full no claims on both.
  13. OK, lost my driving licence due to my eyesight and live 9 miles from a Squirrel control perm that runs from October till March each winter. Looking for a buddy ideally in Aylesbury or Buckingham willing to drive in exchange for joining me on Squirrel control forays in Milton Keynes. 7 large mixed woodlands with feeders in situ and filled by the landowners, proof of insurance needed and you will be interviewed as a formality.
  14. Failsafe recipe, 300ml cold water, 15ml olive oil, 1tsp salt, 1&1/2 tsp sugar, 1 level tsp flour improver,500g Aldi strong white bread flour. Water first, followed by the rest of the ingredients and start the machine on rapid bake, medium loaf, light crust. While the dough is mixing gently add the yeast, I use a silicone cake icing blade as well to push some of the mix off the sides of the pan. After around 40 minutes the mixing cycle ends (you can often hear the blade doing short "pulses") , wet your hands and gently remove the paddle then use your fist to push the dough roughly level. When the cycle has ended turn out the loaf onto a wire rack, it will be too soft to cut anything but the crust for several hours (I bake bread last thing at night for breakfast next day) the bread will not be very crusty, if you want a good crust wet your hand and wipe it over the loaf then pop it in the oven for a couple of minutes. Ran a rapid (1hr55mins) wholemeal today and it came out perfect, recipe is 350g WM + 150g SW.
  15. Not 100% sure but I read somewhere that John is not taking on any work at the moment?
  16. Your local Council will be getting £10,500/year for each Ukrainian refugee (if you house and feed one you get £4200) so that's a minimum of £15,700 per person the taxpayer is about to pay for. Imagine if that money was used to reduce your fuel and food bill?
  17. There's a very posh shop not far from me usually buried behind Range Rovers and Porsche 4x4's busy selling to gullible rich women after cut price designer labels, the owner sources it all from Charity shops for pennies. It was once a pastime of mine scouring these shops, best result was 3 pictures by Owen Bell for £7 the lot, valued by Sotheby's at £100 each.
  18. Boil for 2 minutes, rough them up in a colander then Roast in Oil at 190 for 30 minutes, remove the tray and turn the tatties and the tray, back in the oven and turn at 15 minute intervals till perfect (about 3 turns), I'm not a good cook but this way works every time.
  19. I think salt has various benefits, but we are only talking 6 grams here in a 500 gram loaf so if my maths is correct it's less than 2%. I think it must help with preserving the loaf a bit as well but, in my experience, if you want a loaf still fresh after 2 days then use Wessex Mills French bread flour, downside is it's price 😬. Far cheaper to use the Aldi Flour and just make a fresh loaf.
  20. If you want a good bargain machine buy the Aldi one when it's available, keep the receipt cos after a couple of years the seal in the bread pan locks up and the machine stops, take it back and ,as Aldi don't keep spares, you get your money back, then buy another one. Like my Panasonic but it chews up paddles most years.
  21. I bought one off this very forum about 10 years ago, cannot fault it, cost me pennies, never missed a beat and I would never part with it, superb engineering.
  22. Brilliant idea, a Woman in a drawer.....suggest it to Ikea.
  23. Agree 100% but it's never going to happen. I sympathise with the Ukrainian's and will consider offering a room but I think with energy bills rising everything is about to go up and £87/week doesn't go far.
  24. £350/month?, how much are we paying to house the Dinghy Divers in hotels? more than that per week.
  25. Mine will do a 50:50 mix with wholemeal in the same 1:55 and the longer programs never seem to work as well as the rapid. There's no "fiddling", the machine is already running when I add the yeast and doing so prevents the odd loaf failing as the salt kills the yeast, removing the paddle takes 10 seconds and you don't get that big groove in the base of the loaf. Best around half an hour after finishing with Aldi Blackcurrant conserve 😋.
