  1. OK, lost my driving licence due to my eyesight and live 9 miles from a Squirrel control perm that runs from October till March each winter. Looking for a buddy ideally in Aylesbury or Buckingham willing to drive in exchange for joining me on Squirrel control forays in Milton Keynes. 7 large mixed woodlands with feeders in situ and filled by the landowners, proof of insurance needed and you will be interviewed as a formality.
  2. Failsafe recipe, 300ml cold water, 15ml olive oil, 1tsp salt, 1&1/2 tsp sugar, 1 level tsp flour improver,500g Aldi strong white bread flour. Water first, followed by the rest of the ingredients and start the machine on rapid bake, medium loaf, light crust. While the dough is mixing gently add the yeast, I use a silicone cake icing blade as well to push some of the mix off the sides of the pan. After around 40 minutes the mixing cycle ends (you can often hear the blade doing short "pulses") , wet your hands and gently remove the paddle then use your fist to push the dough roughly level. When the cycle has ended turn out the loaf onto a wire rack, it will be too soft to cut anything but the crust for several hours (I bake bread last thing at night for breakfast next day) the bread will not be very crusty, if you want a good crust wet your hand and wipe it over the loaf then pop it in the oven for a couple of minutes. Ran a rapid (1hr55mins) wholemeal today and it came out perfect, recipe is 350g WM + 150g SW.
  3. Not 100% sure but I read somewhere that John is not taking on any work at the moment?
  4. Your local Council will be getting £10,500/year for each Ukrainian refugee (if you house and feed one you get £4200) so that's a minimum of £15,700 per person the taxpayer is about to pay for. Imagine if that money was used to reduce your fuel and food bill?
  5. There's a very posh shop not far from me usually buried behind Range Rovers and Porsche 4x4's busy selling to gullible rich women after cut price designer labels, the owner sources it all from Charity shops for pennies. It was once a pastime of mine scouring these shops, best result was 3 pictures by Owen Bell for £7 the lot, valued by Sotheby's at £100 each.
  6. Boil for 2 minutes, rough them up in a colander then Roast in Oil at 190 for 30 minutes, remove the tray and turn the tatties and the tray, back in the oven and turn at 15 minute intervals till perfect (about 3 turns), I'm not a good cook but this way works every time.
  7. I think salt has various benefits, but we are only talking 6 grams here in a 500 gram loaf so if my maths is correct it's less than 2%. I think it must help with preserving the loaf a bit as well but, in my experience, if you want a loaf still fresh after 2 days then use Wessex Mills French bread flour, downside is it's price 😬. Far cheaper to use the Aldi Flour and just make a fresh loaf.
  8. If you want a good bargain machine buy the Aldi one when it's available, keep the receipt cos after a couple of years the seal in the bread pan locks up and the machine stops, take it back and ,as Aldi don't keep spares, you get your money back, then buy another one. Like my Panasonic but it chews up paddles most years.
  9. I bought one off this very forum about 10 years ago, cannot fault it, cost me pennies, never missed a beat and I would never part with it, superb engineering.
  10. Brilliant idea, a Woman in a drawer.....suggest it to Ikea.
  11. Agree 100% but it's never going to happen. I sympathise with the Ukrainian's and will consider offering a room but I think with energy bills rising everything is about to go up and £87/week doesn't go far.
  12. £350/month?, how much are we paying to house the Dinghy Divers in hotels? more than that per week.
  13. Mine will do a 50:50 mix with wholemeal in the same 1:55 and the longer programs never seem to work as well as the rapid. There's no "fiddling", the machine is already running when I add the yeast and doing so prevents the odd loaf failing as the salt kills the yeast, removing the paddle takes 10 seconds and you don't get that big groove in the base of the loaf. Best around half an hour after finishing with Aldi Blackcurrant conserve 😋.
  14. My Panasonic does a quick bake in 1hr 55mins, perfect loaf every time. If you add the yeast after about 3-4 minutes as the machine is mixing it isn't affected by the salt and seems to work better, don't forget to remove the paddle after the mix stage.
  15. Buy a used one from Marketplace or similar, I've never bought a new one and £100 will buy you one that will last for years, our last one was £40 and we had it for 7 years, threw it out cos I thought it was leaking but it was a moisture trap my other half had placed on top that was filling up overnight then leaking!!! A £100 replacement bought us a year old example that actually monitors your water hardness and soap concentration.
  16. I make a loaf every 2 days in my machine, 1.5 kg bags of flour from Aldi are 60p so 20p a loaf + a couple of pence for the yeast. Aldi flour is sometimes not quite up to the more expensive brands but 1/2 tsp of flour improver makes a big difference.

  18. Yup, my point, so is Tetley Tea....
  19. Not sure everything is owned by foreign companies, I'm flying the British flag sat in my new Jag with a lovely cup of Tetley tea 🤥.
  20. Bit excessive for packing food surely, mind you, thinking about my wife's roasts a Plasma cutter might be handy.
  21. Problem with that scenario Mice is they would soon have a handful of SU-57's removing them from the air.
  22. I cook a lot of Chinese and I find the Home Icon Wok (Amazon) to be perfect, it's non stick so not traditional as such but it's good quality and the handle pops off so it fits in the dishwasher easily.
  23. Spot on IMHO, Putin has the ability and resources to obliterate Ukraine without his land army setting foot in the country, whilst I have respect for the citizens arming themselves and preparing to fight, I think they are playing into Putin's hands and giving him an excuse to come in heavy.

    tv sound bar

Does your tv have a USB socket? If so you can connect a blue tooth sender and use headphones, wireless jobbies are cheap and very effective, something along the lines of ebay item 133835059174 may well prevent you needing to have your volume high enough to shatter glass.
  25. The only reason you would be tempted is because they are cheap, but they're cheap for a reason. I would question anyone's motive for needing FAC power to shoot Rats as well, most can be taken with a sub 6ftlb pistol? If you want more range for Rabbits then cheapest practical FAC is PCP pushing out around 30ftlbs, you don't need to delve into slugs or anything expensive ammo wise, if you want to save even more money then a used .22lr can cost pennies.
