  1. I haven't seen him on here for a while. I have been in touch by email so he is about. David.
  2. It is that time of year again. We need someone sensible and well grounded to stand. I failed twice so have learned my lesson, I am not the person people want, but we need representation. If you are a BASC member please think about it. David.
  3. I've got one so don't need another. Brilliant bit of kit. Go for it. David.
  4. We don't actually know anything yet! They could be moving and setting up a new factory or going bust.. Peo;le shouldn't talk companies down on the sort of information we have at the moment. People's jobs might be at stake. Can't we be a bit more responsible. David.
  5. A second hand Tirfor and a long cable might do the job. Good solid pull, easily portable, but a bit slow and uses muscles but the things you can shift with one is remarkable. Also reasonably easy to pack away and transport to secure storage. David.
  6. In the first world war "Brigadiers" were actually ranked as "Brigadier Generals" which is one of the reasons for the statistic I quoted. What is also interesting is, like women, most of the young men who went off to fight didn't have the vote either, when women got the vote after the war an awful lot of men did too. Interesting times. David.
  7. No, lack of modern communication meant they had to be pretty close to the front, and the fact that it is a good idea to spread confusion by shelling the command so that confusion reigned meant they were pretty well a favourite target. David.
  8. No I meant General Officers. Officers of General rank. This really is a pretty well completely ignored truth. David.
  9. Just to make a point, the "lions led by donkeys" phrase was coined in the 1960s by a particular group of people who had nothing to do with the First World War but wished to make money out of a theatre production. Although there were many disasters there the fact is that as a percentage rate General Officers had a far higher casualty rate than ordinary soldiers. David.
  10. Depends on the auction. But roughly 20% is common. Lose 20% selling and pay extra 20% buying. The action will have the fees shown on their web site and in the catalogue. David.
  11. Join BASC anyway, but, as I understand it, they will not be able to help you with this because the event happened before your membership commenced. If you join they might give you verbal assistance though if you phone them. Best of luck. David.
  12. OK, just asking. We say steel shot but it is really soft iron. I have had to move over to it for wildfowling and it works at sensible ranges. David.
  13. You don't see that looking out from the inside!!!!😁 David.
  14. The heavier rounds carry more energy down range (muzzle energy isn't the whole answer) and in Scotland you have to use 100g round for deer bigger than a Roe. Might have something to do with the comment. David.
  15. There is a need to start rating the on line warehouses as retail. This will level the playing field a bit. David.
  16. Really well done John. It shows great courage bringing so much good out of you personal grief. David.
  17. If you live in Wales please email your AM. I emailed both my constituency AM (clueless useless) and my regional AMs which made a total of 5. Every little helps. David.
  18. It was bound to be expensive. Our head of state was there. Not good to let people bump off the head of state! Anybody ask what the security would have been like if the President of the USA, Chansellor of Germany, President of France (I could go on) had been there. We live in quite difficult times. David.
  19. Quite an "emphatic" round on impact. The 9.3 x 62 was very popular out in Botswana when I was a kid. Worked well out to 200 and you really should be able to get that close in my opinion. David.
  20. The risk of having children when not married, is that the father has no (as in none what so ever) rights in respect of the child. For example in an emergency can't even give medical consent for an emergency operation! David.
  21. Switch rod, Inever forget seeing my son at 16 and built like a brick outhouse casting a 15 foot #12 single handed because "it's easier than learning to spey cast" but he was being cheeky to annoy the ghillie! Still he managed it. David.

The problems of pheasant shooting in Wales, will almost certainly move onto banning wildfowling as well. BASC is already on to this! Problems in the North of Scotland as well with wildfowling. David.
  23. You never drove aggressively when young? I have to admit that I just might have, but only on very rare occasions. 😉 David.
