  1. Can we have some more pics please? Here's one of mine from Saturday to inspire...
  2. My advice is always get the best you can afford. Plenty of tyre review sites on the net that sort by size, manufacturer, type and price. Budget tyres can look like a good proposition on the basis that they last longer than more established brands, but the reason for that is that they have a harder compound and that severely compromises handling and braking distances. Some are better than others, and they are all having to up their game to stay competitive. Shop around and check the reviews. If you can source your own fitter, camskill tyres (online) are worth a look.
  3. Other advice for the early weeks would be patience and understanding. It's a massive change for the little things. They all have their own personalities, but labradors can be quite sensitive. Lots of rewards and praise for the right things, lots of encouragement to try again when things don't quite go to plan. No need to rush things in the first weeks, toilet training is a must, but they pick it up quickly. Just spend as much time with your dog as you can and enjoy every minute.
  4. We got our first black lab last July. Picked her up at just over 8 weeks, we were lucky to have her from a friend so spent lots of time getting to know her before taking her home. We set her bed up in the kitchen, she had a crate which I covered half of with a blanket and then made a pen do she had a little space to get up and have a stretch. First night I slept downstairs on the sofa, but I need not have worried. She had a few howls and whimpers, but she settled after a while and only woke me up at six with a yap. My advice is get your pup started on the right path and start as you mean to go on. Good luck, and although it's had its low points, training my Winnie had been one of the best experiences of my life
  5. If it has been lacquered or painted, you are better of using wet or dry sanding to get down to bare carbon. Make sure you seal it up properly afterwards though as UV light will break down unprotected carbon fibre very quickly. I work in manufacturing for a composites company so if you want any other advice, let me know.
  6. I have a pair of grubs highline. Classic shooting Wellington look with adjustable gusset, olive green with a nylon lining. Nice and comfy, and from the few reviews I found on line, they are meant to be quite hard wearing and have good levels of grip on concrete/tarmac as well as mud. Had them approx 6 months and have worn them a fair bit during the summer and they were ok comfort wise, now the game season has started they are holding up well. Not sure how they will be warmth wise in really cold weather, will probably revert to my neoprene hunters then. Cost me about £70. Sizes are possibly a little small if you have wide feet like me.
  7. Winnie (aged 17 months) out beating with me on Friday patiently waiting for the first drive after lunch to start after working a hedgerow. It was her first time out on a shoot day and she was very well behaved and did her jobs well. Early days yet, but I think she'll be a good companion. Must be good breeding rather than my training skills!
  8. Not totally meeting your requirements, but Churchill's of dereham have my mk38 grade 5 sporter for sale at this very moment. 30" barrels, but with the teague extended chokes they are almost 31". Have a look.... Oh and welcome by the way!
  9. We bought a karcher wet and dry bagged vaccum from homebase. Similar size to a Henry, but more powerful. With the dog running around everywhere leaving hair, it does a great job.
  10. Moved here from Surrey 9 years ago and it was the best decision my wife and I made. In a similar situation to you as half my family already live up here. I love being so close to the coast, living in a more rural area (despite growing up on a farm in Surrey), and both my wife and I have prospered since we moved, although we had to struggle a bit in the first few years. Ive made some wonderful friends, go shooting far more than I used to, and no longer have to do hours of overtime just to keep a roof over my head. Yes, property prices are rising here, but that is true of everywhere else in the UK. Come and join us, you won't regret it.
  11. I went to see a Mazda b2500 the other week with a view to buying it as a shooting truck. Turns out that it had been used from new as the base for a demountable camper, and what's more, the bloke selling it runs the UK demountable camper club. He had a flat aluminium load cover for the bed when it wasn't in use as a camper van.
  12. It was a local place in Norwich. Google terrano stage 1 tune and you should find somewhere in your area. It was £249 from memory, but will probably be more cos that was 7 or 8 years ago.
  13. If it's the 2.7, once you've got it on the road, consider getting it remapped. I had mine done and it absolutely transformed it. Much more responsive and increased the mpg. I never had much trouble with mine, sailed through 2 Mots no problems. I understand the instrument panel can give a few issues and the easiest thing to do is replace them. Mine used to drain the battery if it was left for more than a few days, but if yours is in daily use that shouldn't be a problem.
  14. Hi/lo range, decent ground clearance (although this is easily raised), strong underbelly. As said, decent set of tyres and you should be able to tackle almost anything. Also, mechanical reliability is a given. Take out the rear seats and it's pretty spacious too.
  15. I looked at an 03 Suzuki grand Vitara swb the other week. 1.6 petrol. They wanted £1100, so good value. If you can find one, could be worth it. Doubt you will find a worthwhile Jimny for your budget.
  16. Great talent. You should be very proud of your work. Good luck for the future and I look forward to looking at your website.
  17. I did my 12*16 shed in seconds 6mm ply from the local timber merchant. With some polystyrene scavanged from work as insulation. It's worked very well. I did spend extra and get some 9mm ply for the floor, but the whole thing cost me about £60 and a weekends work.
  18. Archery, walking, gardening, anything weather related (recently bought a swanky up to date weather station that links straight to my lap top). Also like helping my farmer mates out this time of year. Mustn't forget the dog training too.
  19. I have a boker too, keeps a good edge.
  20. Get yourself down the a47 to dereham ditchy. It's 'only' £131.9 here at the moment.
  21. Winnie (now 1 year old) keeping an eye on me (and my bacon sandwich)
  22. We have had a 2001 rav4 for 3 years that I use for all my shooting. No serious off roading but goes over the fields and along the tracks just fine. Excellent value for money. Was also a godsend in the snowy weather. Getting a bit tired now but has sailed through each mot and needed nothing more in 3 years than replacement discs and pads all round which I did on the driveway. Can't recommend them enough.
  23. He died over 300 years before Islam was established. He was a Roman Christian.
  24. Another Webley and Scott 700 here. Also a ugartchea 12 bore and a Belgian .410 I'm in!
  25. Born in Surrey, raised in Norfolk. English to the core.
