  1. Ill pick up another percussion gun at some point absolutely.Big bore perhaps. On the subject of upsetting other fowlers.I walked that shore nightshooting from dusk till dawn as a boy with my old man.that was 45 years ago now.Without being flippant. If some young lad feels his semi auto is not getting enough work or his trigger fingers rusting up and wanted to blame me well,i think my sensitivity would stretch to pointing the way back to his 4x4 black monster truck that seems to be the "cool" car of choice these days.My father used a black powder Tolley 10 hammergun for decades, fowling with no effect on the wildfowl other than to those that ended up with BB in their chest.Interesting though, what in your mind is the factor that would cause such a reaction?Popularity? dave if they dun like it then they can go on home.We read posts constantly of big bags and cowboys skybusting all over the place yet these fellas seem to be almost hero worshipped in some strange sort of way.If a bloke cant take out a traditional fowling gun for a bit of true sport then its a sad day indeed.Someone fancies a shot, come over to me and ill gladly pass my gun over to them for a go.But a bloke complaining?Ive saved up some colourful metaphors over the years.id share one or two with him

  10. where you get the inflatable Kayak from????
  11. Aye i have em loaded with 42 grains.Someone else said the same.
  12. thanks for that.I have a few more now than i did before. Its all good.
  13. Fast steel used simply for its own sake does not always put a bird in the bag we all know theres a lot more to shooting than the cartridge but if the added confidence instilled by its use improves a shooters mindset ,or the shorter lead distance improves his/her marksmanship then by all means fill yer boots i say and use fast cartridges. At the end of the day its each shooters own choice.
  14. Motty i see from your previous comment ,you have not used the# 3 shot ,so really, you are not in a position to agree or disagree. Best try a box first .A few fellas i know have tried them on duck making their opinions valid, lads who like myself have been at this a very long time and they do agree the #3 are wanting..They are fine for shorter distances.Over water you can really see how dire the patterning is.I sure as hell would not use them on a goose.
  15. bought a box of vip steel #3 as a temporary stop gap till i could reload a batch for duck myself.Good to 25 yards on teal for example --after that its flapper.Utter rubbish for the foreshore so for gawds sake do not use on geese even close geese.Good for ponds or close mallard aye but not for shoregunning.

  18. 12ga Gualandi LBC-48 Wad Ideal for loading non-toxic shot in a 76mm PT case.12 ga Gualandi LBC-48 Wad. These Limited Bored Contact wads are ideal for loading steel shot up to 4.0mm as well as ITM, Bismuth and Powershot. These wads will load: 53 grams of Lead shot, 49 grams of Powershot, 35 grams of Steel Shot and 46 grams of ITX. These wads must be slit 4 ways before loading. Done quite a few with this wad.It works just fine. Read this https://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=66152 ive used a few with 46g lead inland.same as it always was .good stopping power 27 grains ive used but i suspect 28 grains would not go wrong.Certainly not an overly aggressive load with 27.
  19. i've been using 82 on and off for a few seasons.grew up loading this stuff for my first fowling trips out with the old man as a boy and pigeon shooting homeoads too!.The smell always takes me back through the years.
  20. I decided to delete this post .I was advised personal attacks were against the rules of this site.Perhaps i am incorrect in that asssumption. If you cannot comment constructively why comment at all?
  21. better marking a centre point only--shoot your round off and draw the 30" circle from the centre point of the pattern as it shows on the paper AFTER THE SHOTS FIRED
  22. Look to both parents very closely. My lab is a fine friend and a great companion, but when i looked at his parents i chose to ignore what i saw, both their tails between the legs ,and the nervousness .My lab loves the shooting for sure and is not jumpy regarding guns thankfully but it has made training a difficult area due to him being so high strung .I would now advise to look to the parents first as a matter of priority . It may sound daft, but look for the parents being happy dogs first and foremost.
  23. Nothing wrong with a fowling dog doing what he is needed to do Lloyd --so long as he WILL COME BACK if called back.Fowling dogs are ,in my opinion, in a different world to organised shoots. They are part of a two man team so to speak with little time to stand on ceremony whilst everyone gathers round to see the prize dog sniff out a dead pheasant in deep cover.Often speed is the key to picking a goose or duck ,especially on water .But i agree with your meaning and i reckon that a poorly trained dog is ,well, basically, a liability to itself and everyone else.My lab just now has a tendency on occasion,to run on,and may not halt at once ,despite training that has not failed me in the past. Its my own fault though, not the dogs,i have not put in the time as i should have .I should add my previous lab i trained was a damned fine fowling dog, nice and steady.Personalities and breeding. This lab sat beside me here was bred for trials.Hes a handsome devil, quick off the mark ,very sensitive and loyal all day long .But he has a tendency to be excitable(i put this down to breeding) and develop the deaf ear. This is feel will never leave him ,thus i decide what locations are suitable for him to be with me as i do not want him misbehaving amoung seals for example.I chuckle sometimes when i read about how so many dogs are 10/10 according to their owners ,yet when i am out i often see dogs ,well, shall i say ,not quite as obedient as they are claimed to be.I reckon owners need to consider their dogs limitations as well , until/unless their abilities are improved upon and thus their partnership will be better all round.
