  1. I'm heading up to Barrow next week. Would you be around either Monday or Weds afternoon? Cheers
  2. Just wondered if anyone on here is heading to Cockett Farm on Sat morning? I'm heading up, hopefully, with the Father in Law and other family members for a pre-birthday shoot. Will only be my second time out without an instructor and with the Lanber (shot S1 Practical for a few years before), so looking forward to giving English Sporting a good go. Still waiting for my cert so I'm escorted by the FiL until SYP get their wriggle on. Would be good to put names to faces and meet like-minded shooters. Cheers
  3. The official line was to blame one woman's poor record keeping. They sent us all out a letter asking for us to complete the list of firearms we owned or send our certs back for verification. I think there was a more fundamental issue with the office, from speaking with fellow shooters, so they used a scapegoat to get back on track. We've still not got a proper National Firearms Database, if we did it could be used to handle transfers etc without costly and time-consuming paperwork.
  4. You can resize online if your phone doesn't have the option
  5. Try resizing it to shrink the resolution, and therefore the size, down to suit.
  6. Just looking at the stats and experience pal, but it's easier to generalise than to go into minute detail. 14 years ago we bought our fist home, ex-council semi in Barnsley. £75k in need of refurb, spent probably £30k on it over the years, only worth £90-100K currently. Every house we viewed was full of people our age complaining that the carpets weren't nice enough, or the wallpaper wouldn't do. Of course there are a hell of a lot of ex-council being bought by young buyers, but most of the new build in the UK are also going to under 25s, pretty much un-heard of 20 years ago! My comment was in response to the young not being able to get on the property ladder, those that want to, can. A lot just choose not to as they have high demands
  7. As we're on the berry identification mission, any idea what these are? I was hunting for sloes earlier, thanks to you guys and your sloe ginspiration. They'd all been picked but there ere a few of these about
  8. "As the rich get richer the poor get poorer." Only in relation to median wealth. The rich getting richer doesn't mean the poor can't now afford bread or heating, past a certain point the wealthy's incomes have no bearing on what us peasants can and can't afford. As overall wealth rises so does the tax received, impacting inflation which affects inflation, bringing up minimum wages and benefits to suit. "We have people sleeping rough on the streets and our kids cannot afford homes" we have thousands of schemes to help people sleeping rough, not to mention the Council's and Government's responsibilities to minimum levels of housing/income. Aside from a few trapped in bureaucracy, the majority are eligible for a nice council house plus income support. Our kids CAN afford homes, the just don't want to start in a 2-bed ex-council terrace or semi, they want a 4 bed detached on a new build estate with the partner they've been with for 5 minutes. The Gov't help to buy scheme proves that, a majority take up by under 25's who could have easily afforded a cheaper house, but were desperate to prove their superiority that they'd saddle themselves with a £300k mortgage and negative equity.
  9. Labour are in a reasonable position at the moment (should they get into power). They can promise what they like, block Brexit, then blame the EU when none of what they promised comes to pass, blaming the Remainers for affecting the working class. The EU are staunchly anti-privatisation, so at least half of Lab's plans will fall flat fairly quickly should their preferred scenario come to pass. They'd embed us even deeper into the bloc, just to avoid any chance of finger pointing or reprisal
  10. The problem with Hydrogen is that it needs a fair amount of electricity to harvest from water, (unless we strip it from hydrocarbons, defeating the point), and we're not sure of the long term effects of taking tons and tons of hydrogen out of the environment while it goes into storage ready to be sold to drivers. In theory we'd just leave a load of free oxygen in the atmosphere. Plant-waste based extraction has potential, but releases CO2 and hasn't been tested at scale
  11. Did we cause the last "mini ice age" in the Middle Ages? I think the left are too quick to conflate Global Warming, CO2 levels, greenhouse emissions, pollution, deforestation, extinction etc. It makes it one massive issue, instead of smaller issues that can actually be tackled individually. I do think we're having a negative effect on the planet, I'm just not sure to what extent we can affect something that has been occurring for millennia. As has been said a few times over recent months, Science isn't based on consensus. It's based solely on facts, irrefutable and infallible. If even climate change scientists can't agree, then how are we meant to know what's right? There is a growing trend of younger budding-scientists turning to mainstream climate change theories, especially the courses taught in Universities now, that only lead them down one biased path. They're teaching an opinion, not facts, or even the ability and skills to do the research and make up your own mind.
  12. I'll use this to beseech the local council to give me 2 acres of land they're not using, to help offset my carbon footprint Jokes aside, it would be interesting to see what Impact we could have if we were given parcels of land that were used and abused, and asked/allowed to re-wild them as well as we could.
