ic is perfect for anything up to 35 yards. its what i use myself. mod in my benelli completely powders a clay at 30 yards so because i use everything i shoot i want as little lead in it as possible and so stick with the quarter for field shooting. dont get bogged down in choke selection, particularly for field shooting and stick it in the right place. you would be amazed what a skeet choke would do. imod is far to tight for pigeon shooting in my opinion unless you just shoot the 40 to 50 yarders where a 3/4 choke only starts to come into its own

If your not getting clean kills, but a lot of injured and walking birds then your choke is not tight enough. If your kills are clean and the birds die within seconds, the choke is right. I use 1/2 (mod.) in my Beretta Urika 2. with 28g/30g. 5s/6s which ever is available.

I am old and long ago realised that changeable chokes were invented by Satan to drive young shots to the edge of insanity.

Stick the most open choke you have in the gun and forget it. With appropriately sized shot it will kill effortlessly to the maximum range that most people can hit a bird.

Having wounded birds has nothing whatsoever to do with the choke and everything to do with the fact that the bird is not centred in the pattern.

100% agreement.

A while back I shot ball trap with 28g 7.5s through the cylinder choked barrel on one of my hammerguns and broke 21 out of 25.

Infinately more birds are wounded by being on the edge of a misplaced pattern than are wounded by being in the centre of a pattern shot through too little choke.

A common misconception.

Choke does not affect range at all. It affects pattern density. Only the cartridge can affect range.

If you're using 32g 6's then i/c will do the job on all but the rangiest birds.
