steve_b_wales
One tip I had off a garage owner. If you have black 'plastic' type bumpers, you can get a great shine on them by using Johnson's baby oil. I tried it and it's excellent. MJN
google "turtle ICE wax" products, not tried them myself ( I use autoglym) but as it's new it may be better, it seems to have good write ups. M.

Imperfection
Autoglym products are the best around-end of! It isnt the cheapest i know, but nothing in my option comes close to the ease of use and shine.Their normal 'Super resin polish' beats every other polish hands down and i've tried many over the years. spence
Turtle ICE is good for giving the car a quick shine after washing and does everything bodywork and exterior plastics both painted and not. As said black cars are a right pain especially water marks, don't even think of it in warm weather. Said I'll never have another one but wife didn't remind me when we got her Alfa. Doh..................
Fishleigh
Yeah black cars look so nice when there clean, or when its raining! Although at the minute its annoying me looking at the water marks and dirt
J@mes
I don't know what the 10 Bosnians that I pay £5 to clean my car use. But on the odd occasion that I do it myself, I use autoglym products and a "flash carwash system" that filters the rinsing water, meaning you don't have to chamois/ towel down to stop water marks! Devon Fox
I have 2 black cars, my driving school car + L200 I give my vote to autoglym .... its the muts! Personally I will not be buying a black car again, impossible to keep clean, and mine seems to have softer paint and shows every mark. A guy i know uses a leaf blower on his car to dry it, and it works as long as you do not have a dusty driveway!, leaves it smear free! DSPUK
The wife has a black car and when I wash it I use water from waterbutts in a watering can to swill soap off -- I do roof and front and rear windows then swill - one side then swill and so on - with rain water it doesn't leave water marks so when you have finished all you need is a real good Microfibre drying cloth - the £8 ones not the £1 one from B&M they don't work - then when dry use a quick detail spray and it will shine -- if you really are keen try a car detailing forum - there is one produce out at moment for black cars but can't remember what it is -- I should really get some as the car is covered in fine scratch's -- This is the water based paint they now use on new cars - rubbish it is. Probably nearly 100% silcone based product like Turtle wax ICE, makes your car gleam with the littliest of effort but looks **** after a couple of days and usually full of streaks. The Albanians at my local tesco use this sort of rubbish. Also with black cars its so easy to put a load of swirls into the paint if you dont take care. The Duke
i had a black car was a pain but the results are well worth the effort, as said the autoglym products are brilliant personally i wash with bodywork shampoo conditioner - washing section at a time ensuring the car is always wet, so no watermarks can form before you have a chance to dry with the chamois. polish with super resin polish - apply to car by cloth in large circles and spred in lines along vehicle allow to dry and buff off. and finish with ultra deep shine. check out the autoglym website they have guide videos on most of there products. there are other products i use for other parts of the car but this is the bulk of what you need to get started, soon going to be using meguires gear tho as my uncle is now a judge for them so will be getting the freebies oh and stay away from the turtle wax ice products been there done that, there not very durable at all atb duke. digger
Being a lazy sod I too use eastern europeans and get them to do the car inside and out. Or the car wash in BP garages that "blow drys" the car after the wash. My Alfa looks cracking clean, I will never buy another black car, I will never buy any car other than an Alfa - roll on July

JonD
Meguiars Gold Class range for me. Halfrauds have started to stock it; however it's not cheap but delivers the results and takes a LOT more effort than the silicone stuff. I always used to use autoglym until i found Meguiars having done the show scene years ago, it takes ages to apply and remove, do a panel at a time but the maintainance was far quicker. Jon. Hairofthedog
I had an hour to spare this morning before I go out to catch some rays and so I just flicked around this forum, made an odd contribution elsewhere, then saw this car cleaning thread. You kow there's an awful lot of time, energy, effort and water wasted on washing cars, especially when the damn car gets all ****ted up again next day. Far better let nature take it's course and wait for a rainy spell to remove the grime then you only need ten minutes and an old sponge, whats the point of shampoo and wax, after three years you're only gonna get book price for that part plastic loaf tin, so save it. I mean baby oil on black bumpers, get real, there's much better uses for that stuff - gunstocks ? Jon. have to agree, bin the auto glym espesially the car shampoo, its like nats pi$$, get some megs and a lams wool mit. i tend to use poorboys stuff (ssr and ex-p) and carlack/klass AIO and if i get really bored i chuck a layer of dodo juice or p21s on as a final layer, but i prefer a solid reflection that a selant gives over the soft glow of a wax.
