Frenchieboy
I went out this evening to get some fresh air and clear my head ready for a 50 bird down the line shoot tomorrow morning. While out I came across this young vixen mooching about on the edge of one of the gulleys that are on this particular permission. It was a perfectly safe shot with as near a perfect "text book" backstop so there was no problem on that front but the problem came about because she would not show me a clear view of her head. I tried squeeking her but that seemed to make her a bit nervous so I stopped that as she just seemed to want to "sulk" in the bracken and heather. Eventually, after about ten minutes of carefully watching her although I could not see her head she showed me enough of her neck and chest at about 70 yards so the shot was on. After carefully squeezing the trigger she just dropped and rolled straight down to the bottom of the gulley. I retrieved her and found that the shot had entered her lower neck and exited just behind her shoulder taking the heart with it. I photographed her on the "better side" as the other side was quite a mess. As it turned out she was a very nice looking vixen, only young and one of the healthiest I have come across for a while. Oh well, that's another to add to this years tally! :( Edited June 19, 2010 by Frenchieboy

Frenchieboy
She must have been an early one, looks quite big for this years cub. I agree with you there Ollie, she was perfectly formed and very well developed but her teeth gave her age away. If I had thought i would have photographed them as they were so "young and perfect"! I do know that there was a litter very near to where I shot her so maybe I will find one of her brothers or sisters and then get a photos of the teeth!!!!! I have noticed that the foxes have been breeding earlier than usual up our way as a couple of my videos will confirm!

Frenchieboy
:yp: Nice one, unusual to get an exit wound with the hmr!!! I agree there. This bullet entered through the throat and went through the "vital organs" before "mashing up" the bones in the shoulder. That was a lot of dammage that got done to that young fox!
