Ricko
I have put an ad on eBay (it is not important what for), I can't believe all the scam emails that I am recieving (I set up another email account to deal with questions) "Dear seller, I have seen your item and wish to pay for it by PayPal and have it exoported to the US, ....etc etc" despite the ad saying that it is cash only. It looks like the old Nigerian bank scammers have moved with the times!!

Cranfield
I buy from the International eBay, pay by Paypal and have it shipped to the UK, so not all these transactions are by "scammers".

Nothing wrong with the above question. Had it asked loads to me as well. Also Polland is quite hot at the moment for people buying stuff in Uk for back there. Guest gloker
Always send items 'international signed for' Otherwise they may deny ever receiving the item and make a paypal claim (This happened to me once.)
Lez325
scammers, usually use the word ITEM as opposed to the car you have for sale or the books youre selling etc etc Im my belief the word ITEM is what to watch out for Les Edited August 26, 2010 by Lez325
the running man
I also have had bad experiences with ebay buyers in the past, buying stuff is ok as cranfield says, but selling stuff I found to be too much hastle, its the french and germans, they want their item through their door 8 seconds after winning the auction, and they always leave bad feedback regardless. So I only sell in the uk,and u must have 100% feedback a paypal account no strikes and have bought more than 50 items. Always take payment b4 dispatch. And the fees are getting high too. I also have had emails as you describe,I just email back saying yep item sent mate, where's my money?
steve_b_wales
I advertised a Canon camera for sale on Gumtree. Within a day, I had this 'lady' who wanted to buy it, and have me send it to South Africa. BUT, she would pay me when she sees the receipt for posting it. 'She' went on to make other excuses to encourage me to sell it, and was 'desperate' to have it. I ended up selling it to a PW member. There are genuine buyers/sellers out there, but you have to be very careful who you deal with.

mcw65
Its also e-bay policy that all sellers have to give buyers the option of paying by paypal.
Silhouette
Its also e-bay policy that all sellers have to give buyers the option of paying by paypal. I bet thats more to do with making more money on commission than anything else though....Paypal and ebay are the same company.
Breastman
Two years ago i had an old couple arrive at my house asking to load the piano/organ they'd bid for, won and paid for on Ebay?! At first they didn't believe me that i didn't have it for them, but as they'd driven a good 200 miles for it i invited them in for a coffee and to use the bathroom, and i showed them around to prove i didn't have one stashed under the bed! :( Felt quite sorry for them as with the cost of the petrol and the £1500 they'd paid for it they'd had a right rogering Mark
Canis
Dear seller, I have seen your item and wish to pay for it by PayPal and have it exoported to the US, ....etc etc" What is wrong with someone asking this?? Politly decline if you don't want to sell internationaly? Also if the paypal the money in my experience this is as good as cash. I've sold loads of gear to the US. When Ive sold on Ebay I also don't mind a request to ship anywhere, providing payment is by paypal. What irritates me is having set up the item for sale by auction these days you seem to get a deluge of people asking for a buy it now price, even when the description said " This is an auction, There is no buy it now price!" I find that Paypal is fine as these days a number of online retailers take it in place of a credit card payment and you only pay the paypal fee for a draw down from your paypal account. hence the last ebay sale i made "became" a bag of dog food and a couple of Teague chokes for my 325 without paying paypal a fee! al4x
with paypal just watch all the ID's and names add up, I sold a phone on there and was paid by paypal but the ebay account was in a nigerians name with his shipping address in London and the paypal was in a womans name in york. I refunded the money and told him to go forth and multiply but he still tried to pursue the transaction through ebay looked like it had stung me for all fees as he was trying to still go ahead with the transaction. A week later they told me it was attempted fraud, I so wanted to have an item dropped off by one of my less savoury couriers but couldn't be ***** in the end. Lord Geordie
My Brother in law sold a Projector on Ebay for £600. Paid for via paypal so he shipped the projector and 2 days later Paypal took the money back out of his account telling him it had been paid for with a stolen credit card He was left with no projector and no money and never DID get any compansation! Fine to TAKE your money but not as quick to help those who are wronged using THEIR system Edited August 27, 2010 by Lord Geordie
Norrie
I'm in the process of selling all my fishing gear on there...and have had many messages asking if I'd send to Italy, Brazil, Australia and the US ..wherever a buyer wants it sent, it gets sent, as long as it's paid for with Paypal...it gets sent Airmail Signed For, no problem there either, as the buyer pays for that too... The only hassle I've ever had in almost 2000 deals, is with some scumbag from London!!!! Bid on a boat, won it, then scarpered....
