Hi, I have been shooting at Bywell for a while now but it has now got to a point were it is getting far to expensive! Please could someone advise how I could possibly store my weapon at a club? Reason I ask is my partner is not keen on the weapon being in the house! I hope this is possible and I would love to know some places in the north east! Thanks stuart

An interesting one.

Firstly check with the club to see if they are willing to or indeed have the facilities for storage of your shotgun. If its a larger ground with a shop and they are an RFD I can see it would be much easier to arrange , than if its a smaller ground / club with no such facilities.

Personally I have never head of people storing shotguns at their club / grounds, but I do know from personal experience the 22 rifles can and are stores at rifle clubs.

Of course, the best option is to convince your partner that it is perfectly safe to keep the shotgun at home!

tell her to get a grip, otherwise it'll be £2-3 storage a week if my local RFD is anything to go by. If you have parents with a house nearby that may be an option but putting your foot down and demonstrating you're the man of the house is the way forward

I agree, just man up, if you let your Mrs control you like that you're not manly enough for a gun anyway.

Big jess.

How does she expect a new born baby to hurt itself with a gun that is locked in a cabinet? New borns can't even hold their own head up let alone steal the keys to your cabinet, open it up, load a shotgun that wieghs the same as it does and with cartridges as big as their hands, close it and then pull the trigger!

I agree with David and try to convince her that the gun wont sprout legs and go walk about so will be perfeclty safe locked in a cabinet. If this fails then blatantly ignore her wishes and store it at home anyway.

Theres no way on earth i'd store my guns at a club because it would be a major inconvenience and atleast at home i know excally where they are and in what condition.

ps.Please dont call it a weapon though-its a gun!

Suggest to her she keep her hair straighteners, pointy heel shoes, hair dyes and lipsticks (choke hazard) at a different house. Also make sure the kettle, cutlery and kitchen knives are all stored at the local police station for safety.

Stupid as it may sound there is much more likelihood of a baby getting injured by those items than a shotgun

 Why not ask someone you shoot with to store it for you

it would need putting on their licence as well and access would

need to be prearranged,I know a lad in the same situation with

his wife (hates guns) so stores his at a mates he shoots with,

northumbria allowed my son to keep his shotguns in my cabinet but

put all our shotguns on both licences until he got his own cabinet sorted

in the house he bought.

Sounds like a case of baby brain to me if you have etc cabinet etc the perhaps suggest keep gun but no shells at home or added security like a chamberlock in cabinet. I think if you gave it up it cups be a slippery slope!!!

You'll have to ring around and ask mate, most clubs have "club guns" but they are on committee members SGC and stored at there home, as mentioned a ground with onsite RFD or local RFD is best bet but there may well be times you have to store the gun yourself or miss out on shooting.May find it easier to sell your gun and just use a club gun, unless you can find someone who is happy to take responsibility to carrying your gun to and fro for you.

I am based in whitley bay in the north east but shoot at bywell.

The person who suggested i am a "jess" clearly isnt married.

Just some advice on storing was what i was after and not relationship advice.

For the people who posted useful info then would you advise whether its best I just contact my local shooting grounds or go for the clubs instead??

Stuart, why don't you suggest that if you keep the gun at home you won't keep any

cartridges at home and you can put the money that would have gone towards

storage into savings for sprog #1?

Without cartridges it's effectively two bits of pipe selded together.

6 months down the line when she's used to it you can work on the cartridges.

[Edit: should have read the whole thread HDAV beat me to it, yesterday]

NO worries I had to do the same once she had been out and dusted a few clays herself I got away with another gun (first one was an heirloom and not to be used), then carts, then a 3rd..... had to get gunsmith to assist on that one, now sold one and thinking of getting one she can use. I get more agro about my golf clubs as they are more visible......I don't wave it around when she is about and she doesn't like the smell of gun oil so i clean it at the ground and pop it back into locked cabinet as soon as i am back in the house (as we all should) I did have to practice mounting it infront of the mirror for a while and that seemed to help.
