hello all,

im looking at purchasing a .22 semi auto rimfire, i dont want anything thats going to cost me a fortune but dont want something that is going to fall apart the second i pull the trigger, i recently shot a ruger 10/22 and was pleased bar the repeated jamming!

any ideas or suggestions?

Check out the Marlin 795, I'm saving up for one at the moment .... Looking at the videos on youtube and reading various reviews it seems like a great gun and when compared to the 1022 out of the box it is apparently less fussy on ammo, has a better trigger and is substantially more accurate due to its micro-groove barrel.

I got to try one at my local club a few months ago and was very impressed, only drawback seems to be the lack of aftermarket 'bling', extended mags etc that you can get for the 1022 but that does not concern me.

Been quoted £200-£250 new in my local gun shops which is very good compared to the price of a new 10/22 but the thing that absolutely irritates me is in the states the gun retails in most supermarkets for $125 with a $25 mail-in rebate, by today's conversion rates that equates to £64 <_<

It also has an automatic last shot hold open feature which I think is absolutely essential on a rimfire (although I think the 1022 may have a firing pin retaining pin to prevent dry fire damage)

browning buckmark, i know it's probably more than you're willing to pay, i thought the same until i actually saved up and got one, but it's a well made gun, it doesn't jam with subs, and is reasonably accurate, accurate enough for bunnies and sitting crows anyway. If you're still unsure then just try one first before you commit to buying anything else.

Alternatively, an anschutz, a bit longer than the buckmark but still a well made gun.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but wanted to ask Gram71, what sort of groups is the buckmark capable of? If it cycles subs and can hold a decent group at 50 yards I think it would be just about the perfect semi-auto.

thank you all for the advice.

i have today purchased a magtech 7022, it was only £85 in my local gunshop and was complete with a walther ulimidot 3x9x40 scope, it also had a nice wooden stock. It was a bit dirty so ive cleaned it all up and it looks good, hopefully will fire ok...

Does the trigger have about a fortnight of travel and feel like two pieces of 60 grit sandpaper grating together?

can you give me a bit more info running man do they do it in 17 hmr?

no semi auto .17 hmr is in circulation in this country,as the pistol ban excluded all calibres but .22 in semi auto, and .17 was not around at that point. but a kid barrel and trigger in bolt action may be possible, phone www.rudefatdog.com and see waht he says. kid stuff is the best there is,you wont be dissapointed.

Lol yes, i took the trigger mech and stock off and cleaned it all thourougly, ive put 250 rounds through it so far with no jams!

I have looked at these myself, for some reason I keep getting the idea to buy one for some fun, but the trigger is terrible, as far as I am aware there is no adjustment and no replacement or kit available for it.

Any custom gunsmith trigger work would negate the whole point of this gun, about £140 brand new now.

I understand they are quite reliable though, enjoy!

i'm hitting crows out at 70 metres easily, grouping is tight at 50m. I haven't tried targets much further but it's a lovely little gun.

That's very impressive, more so if its doing that straight out of the box. My 1022 is holding just over 1" at 50 yards with eley subs, I do have the odd flier though. This is with an expensive after market barrel from tactical solutions. Other brands of ammo like winchester subs just get sprayed over the target at that distance and wouldn't be any good for vermin.

For a while I've just thought that I'm expecting too much from a semi-auto...

post-22521-1285526599.jpg the buckmark rifle is pretty good rifle,i have one as a pistol (long barelled) and its never jamed on me. im toying with the idea of getting one of these rifles, the target/heavy barreled version (shown)cut to bare minimum legal length.screw cut,and under barrel pitcatinny rail for a forward grip,i think this will make a great little manouverable rabbiter/ratter and fun gun.

hello all,

Unfortunately mate this is a problem that you are likely to find with most Semi Auto .22LR rifles. They all tend to be a bit "ammo fussy" so you have to try different makes and types of ammo till you find one that your rifle likes.

As has been said, a bolt action .22lr is much less likely to give you this problem and will quite likely be a little more accurate!

That's my advice but I will no doubt get shot to pieces for saying it by the Semi Auto lovers out there!
