how many people pay for permisions

I would imagine that most pay for shooting if they are serious about it. I know some that don't but they generally work hard for it in other ways, pest control being one, BUT most 'hobby' shooters cannot put the amount of time in to satisfy farmers needs. Turning up once in a blue moon when they feel like it doesn't crack it I'm afraid.

Want good game shooting, want good specialist shooting (deer stalking, snipe/woodcock shooting, goose shooting etc) then I guess unless you're very lucky you'll pay for it.

The cheapest form of paid for shooting I know of that's available to most is wildfowling...join a club!

no not not a boasting post at all spose i am lucky and am a genuine person who likes to help people out and has rewarded me with a lot of shooting. i did once pay for a cracking bit of ferreting but due to everyone else paying the same and it being overcrowed after a while i gave up my memberhips.

never been wildfowling would like to give it crack at some point but pigeons are the best in my eyes nothing beats a days decoying

I help out with the lambs, shearing, dipping and moving over 600 sheep and about 100 cattle around, also help with fencing and clearing ditches when required.

Getting up one sunday morning to find about 250 lambs had escaped and charging off to stop them all wandering onto the new by-pass earned me quite a few brownie points. It was the first time I've ever used my 1200cc motorbike to heard sheep, but I tell you what: those airhorns and a quick blip of the throttle really do 'encourage' the sheep up the lanes!!

Things like telling the local farmers if a fence has let go, or there are poachers around, ramblers leaving gates open (I used fencing wire and a couple of staples to tie a gate closed after it had happened a couple of times - then told the farmer how to get it open easily if he ever needed to), bla, bla, whether or not you have permission there, will either get you in the good books, or get you permission. It took me 2 years to get land that I can use FAC weapons on so I know it's not easy.

Also: I'm too poor to pay

PLEASE do not consider paying for ANY vermin control type of shooting. That is a slippery slope which will end up with everyone paying and eventually ONLY those with a few quid able to, stuffing everyone else.

Some Game rights and some Wildfowl are paid for, and this is because anyone who does pay should be able to make a return/profit on their investment, or it is simply a hobby, do not confuse this with Vermin Control.

I have some 40 pieces of land from just a few acres up, I do not, and never will pay for any land, some of what I do is free for sure, but some is also paid for (by the landowner), and in some cases very well! One off jobs crop up and they are chargeable! :good:

I don't pay anyone, but 4 of the local ones scattered around totalling almost 4000 acres I can shoot over who are best for me get a single malt. My base permision gets a small hamper, all as gifts not mentioned when securing them, so it could be said it costs me about £200 in thank you's.

All pest control that I can come and go on overnight as I please and all say there is no need every time I drop it in - though I have to stand down from nearly 3000 acres during early Sept till Feb 2nd.

never paid for permissions and on about 3 perms we never will have to do; just chip in with the old fella for a bottle;for the farmers at xmas.but i am going down that route due to fact that other shooters and syndicates are buying land from under our feet so if we don;t go down the same route we will have next to nothing in a few years time sign of the times i;m afraid farmers are wising up and now they are not just gratefull that you have tried to keep pigeons off the rape all winter;you have to pay for the privalige to do so.

I do not pay for some shooting and for some I do.I think for you who have 40 areas of land to shoot over are very lucky and you should not be telling people not to pay.

I do understand your reasoning but if people can only get shooting by paying then its up to them.Maybe if some of the people with all the shooting share a little it would be better.

I have had some good days from people in PW and have returned the favour. Its good to share,

Two things I never intend to pay for in my life are sex and shooting :D

But I suppose in reality they both cost us a fortune!!!!!!!

Joking aside I will never pay a farmer/land owner for shooting pigeons/crows/rabbits/fox as at the end of the day I am doing a job for him/her that at one time of day he/she would have had to pay for. I would pay for a deer stalking experiance or a day with a pigeon guide.

Dekers, i have been knocking on doors for the last three years after land and have only secured one permission which was through work and expired when we finished in the area. Waht do you suggest? Rather than pay for shooting shall i just give it up and sell my guns? Like hell i will. I had the opportunity to pay to join a pigeon shooting club and now have a small farm where i can go and enjoy my sport every weekend. Also made a couple of new friends through and enjoy shooting with them.

You should think a bit before you post on here. As you know from numerous posts there are many people like me that have been unable to secure a permission and i think it is rude for you to tell us not to pay for permission. Maybe if half the people on here that claim to have thousands of acres to shoot over (which i dont think one person could effectively control thousands of acres single handedly unless its a full time job) offered a bit of free shooting on here every now and again i think that would sort out all these people that are trying to earn money off shooting on here.

Even though farmers are now wiseing up these people who pay for pemission not in all circumstances but majority dont do wat there supposed to be doing which is PEST CONTROL even though you may not shoot 100 200 300 bag numbers if your out shooting in a field you may be keeping 1000s of birds of them fields therefore doing your job and pleasing the farmer some times it not about shooting numbers
