Why buy a bmw when you could get a decent car. Mondeo, volvo's, citreons, even a peugeot all have more respectability than a bmw.

What makes me laugh is owners of the bmws seem to think they are driving a superior car...

bmws are the new self abusers car of choice

I went along one day just on a whim to try out a series 5 bm drove it for about 4 miles and paid for it there and then, oh and yes it IS superior, had fords made from recycled bean cans (without much alteration) wife has had two brand new citreon,s both ****, two mates have brand new alpha's that have been back for warranty repairs more times than I go to the filling station, peugot have electrics seemingly still from the lucas range!!!like it or lump it bmw is a driving experience, once bitten you will not change, quality shows.

They aren't bad but I don't think they are vastly superior to Audi. IMHO Audi engines and build quality are better. BMW dealers and standard equipment are better (everything is an extra on an Audi).

I think Audi and BMW fight for top spot. Merc third. Followed by the rest. Still don't think Ford compare with the top three.

That's only considering manufacturers that make a range of cars from small to large so ignore the 'niche' companies such as Jaguar.

Think that BMW still have a bigger '***' factor than Audi but didn't Clarkson say that Audi had overtaken BMW in that respect?

BMW undeniably build good cars, some of their owners are a "bit wonky" but that applies to all makes

They do seem to suffer in ice and snow in the UK which just goes to prove what a difference the fitment of appropriate tyres does for cars in such conditions.

BMW and some of the other "prestige" makes do ride their luck on brand image to a greater or lesser extent.

Couldn't agree more, my 120d is the best car I've owned by a long shot and yes I've had Fords, Vauxhalls, Toyota, Citroen, Mazda and more.

I posted earlier that I thought the BMWs are cack in the snow and they are (which is why it stays on the drive and the 4x4 comes out instead) with the standard run flat low profiles what do you expect? Given the choice between my 120 and any other car I've driven, I'd pick it any day of the week for commuting, a fun blast and a run to the shops.

Cars are so like women

Some are reliable some are not

Some are pretty some are real dogs

Some give a good ride some don't

Some are cheap some are expensive

We would all like a pretty, reliable, cheap one that gives a good ride but you have to make some compromises.

You can always modify one I suppose.

my bm HAS been parked up due to the weather we have had a LOT of snow and for a long time,in fact its snowing now (not laying mind) snow, big fat tyres, rear wheel drive and a bit more power than a hair drier does not go well!

so the old 4x4 has been put to good use,but I needed to belt up to glasgow last tuesday so out comes the bm, been stood for weeks, 1st turn of the key and away she goes, 400 mile round trip in 7 hours, (cost me 65 quid petrol mind) BUT after using my 4x4 for so long I thought I had gone deaf, kept looking at the rev counter when at junctions? as it was the only way I could tell if it was still running :D try that with your average ford bang along reps car.

Anyone who owns or inspires to own a bmw is truly sad, what an overhyped, underengineered and common piece of ****. And before anyone goes on about jealousy, your joking, I would rather drive a 2cv6 than be seen driving a bmw

Anyone who makes comments about owning a BMW without actually owning or even have driven one is truly sad, what an ignorant, underachieving and common mind he must have. And before anyone goes on about being harsh, your joking, I would rather listen to whale calling than spend a minute listening to this load of ****.

I see the (small) willy-wavers are out in force again. Bit of snow and all the macho boys come out and compare cocks

No I don't drive a BMW (or a 4 x 4)

No, I don't want a ******* tow :sly:

What do you drive - or is it ride a bike

I stopped people asking for a tow when my son wrote on the back of my Pickup 'tow-£10.99'

My L200 comes with a large cod-piece on the bonnet - there for a reason  Damn - just been outside for a look and the 'cod-piece' is on my wife's side :o maybe they were designed by Italians

Best willy waver joke as in 'Punch' many years ago,a very disapointed woman in bed lighting up a fag saying to the guy next to her," now I see why you have to drive a BMW'

I drive all sorts of cars through work (company or hire cars) and try as I might, I always prefer BMW. Thats why I parted with my own money for one. Its what I like. Granted its pants in the snow but then really, how many times a year do I need to worry about that. I wonder if its the same amount of time the average Pug/Ford/Vaxhuall is off the road being patched back up...

There might be many cars out there that get you from A to B, but none of them makes me wanna drive more than the BMW; its a great car to drive!

Granted its not that practical. Boots only big enough for a weeks shopping and the ground clerence is 5" at best, but hey, who cares. Lifes about what makes you feel good right? whether thats a 4*4 all tooled up, or a low slung ultimate driving machine. Take your pick...

You have to admit that most bmw drivers are complete ********. I was passed by a bmw last night in minus conditions with the roof down and a fatty sat in the back with his top off. He thought he was really funny kneeling on the back seat with his titties out shouting abuse on the dual carriageway but oh how a laughed to myself when the police pulled them over. I feel like ramming them when they dont use indicators and cutting you up aswell.

We've got a 320i M Sport fitted with winter tyres. Went everywhere next doors Freelander 2 did in the recent snow, climbed hills, descended hills all with great control, managed to drive through 8" of snow with no problems.

Come March I'll put the low profile slicks on and I'll enjoy luxurious driving in the ultimate driving machine :P

poor mans merc- bmw havnt produced a decent motor in years

I've never seen the attraction of BMW or Mercedes- why do they both persist with this RWD is best rubbish? having the engine weight over the driven wheels gives you far better grip - the rear end swinging out is not Sporty, its faulty!( ) They are both trading on an out of date reputation selling car where everything is an extra! oh well their loss!

If you want reliability buy Jap!

Well said. When I went in a moment of stupidity to look at an x5 years ago, after 5 mins in the showroom I realised I had too much self respect to join a club full of the people either working for bmw or owning one... and as for build quality, what a joke, performance mediocre, standard of options poor...

Real men do not drive bmw, they smirk at the boys who do :good: :good: :good:
