harrybarry
Ok i am approaching my 25th year at work, they present you with a gift of your choice to the value of a grand, it has to be "a long lasting gift" and it has to be presentable at a buffet lunch. The wife said a new dishwasher, she is curretly unavailable as she is attending A+E I was thinking of something of an investment, something i could pass on to my lad in years to come. Any ideas chaps

DuncanH
A nice watch is always a good one, get the right one and it will hold its value well and last for your son. Shotgun is good as well, but might not be considered acceptable to be presentable at a lunch if your colleagues are not shooters.

harrybarry
just been on the whiskey exchange bottle of malt £980 for a 25 year old, bottled in 1987. if you dont neck it would that be a good bet
Dibs
gold bar might look a bit funny but as a cold investment then not a bad plan. Buy a 1oz ingot well inside your budget. If you look at the ten year history, long term it only goes up. As its a present then a nice watch sounds like a plan.

rimfire4969
I think a watch is a great idea, the only problem i see is that a great quailty watch may cost a bit more especially one that will hold its value for many years to come. Omega, Rolex etc. I have a Omega Seamaster Automatic which my boy will have when i bite the bullet. The Seamaster range starts at i think £1280.00. A great watch is a great thing to have. fenix
4 x hatsans?? joking apart I have an old 10 bore that was presented to a chap by his employer in the 1890s. I would probably choose a watch, but I would be looking at a used top end brand, so the purchaser would need to be steered to a shop where they wouldnt be shafted. And one that allowed an exchange within a couple of weeks.
