MM
So, i was out the other day after some crows, and i decided to take the sbs instead of the usual O/U. I noticed i felt at ease with the gun, and it didnt feel as cumbersome as an O/U. Do people still use a sbs for the likes of pigeon shooting, as i really feel better with it. i may even get rid of both my OU's at this rate. I dont want to appear out of place when put shooting, or look like an old div using a gun from a hundred years ago, when i might even use it for clays. I might even start a trend at this rate, and start everyone using the sbs for a change.
39TDS
Only own a sbs and never wanted an OU. Have used it for clays but the barrels heat the rib too quick and I "lose" the clays in the heat haze. Rarely shoot at clays anyway. It may well look like it is from 100 years ago, and it possibly is for all I know. The hammers add to that too I guess. I like the gun and I can drop pigeons with it, that is all I want from it. MM
i think your onto something then mate. I took my sbs as a swap and only wanted it for the odd day, but its turning out to be my fav gun. its a double trigger and feels very pointable. This is the one: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/146281-sbs-swap/page__p__1245696__fromsearch__1#entry1245696 but im deffo keeping it now. the barrels are short, and i like that. i dont feel happy with anything longer than 28" as im only a short ****. this seem to fit the bill perfect, and i might get another. AlistairB
I think i'm going to have to dust off my sbs and give it a go, it hasn't been used for donkeys and deserves a day out!
Frenchieboy
I have both a SxS and an O/U! I use the O/U mainly for clays and crows but I have to admit that I prefer my SxS for feel as I am a bit of a "traditionalist" and was brought up with a SxS so I feel more comfortable with it! I believe it is personal preference thing but I would never dream of parting with my SxS and always chose it before the O/U whenever I feel like having just a quick walk about for "relaxation"! To me there is a real satisfaction in using a nice SxS Edited June 17, 2011 by Frenchieboy
Gutty Boots
Only use my o/u now for fowling ( 3in chamber & steel shot proofed.) I much prefer the sxs for anything else: pigeons, walked up rough days etc. Seldom shoot clays these days. Although the o/u cost me more than the sxs ( AYA boxlock ) it is the sxs that I reach for on opening the cabinet.
mossy835
i have an o/u used them for years, but now i use my s/s shoot a lot better with it.
12borejimbo
I prefer my side by side, feels bet term weighs less, and looks more "english" if you know what I mean, I'm saving for a really nice English sidelock.
HDAV
Only own a sbs and never wanted an OU. Have used it for clays but the barrels heat the rib too quick and I "lose" the clays in the heat haze. That happens on my vented rib O/U! Like the SxS but can get sore on a lot clays

Zaiyn
I think i'm going to have to dust off my sbs and give it a go, it hasn't been used for donkeys and deserves a day out! I may just have to join you with that one! I'm thinking of doing a spot of decoying Sunday pm. My only concern is that I'm used to connecting with my 30" O/U. If birds are few and far between, I certainly don't want to miss any. Ot should be fun though and I can always have old faithfully in the boot if I'm hopeless with the sbs. Good luck to you Z. Glenshooter
Last weekend, my lad used my S/S for the first round at his weekend 50 clay shoot. He shot his own O/U on the second round - the round on which he typically improves his score by a couple of clays. He shot 39/50 on both rounds. Dekers
Because I prefer them, (actually I prefer my Semi) I just can't get on with SBS. Does it matter, there is no right or wrong here, if it works for the shooter that's all that matters! ATB!
UKPoacher
The SXS is better to carry as it doesn't open as wide and so doesn't bite as much on your arm. Easier to load for the same reason. They are usually lighter too. Sight picture doesn't matter to me as I look at the bird not the barrels. I've only owned one O/U, my first gun, and sold it a year later. That was twenty years ago. Best SXS for the money is a Miroku MS150. Slightly heavier than an AYA#4 but the engineering and blueing is a different class altogether and around half price of the Spanish gun. I wasn't aware of any of that. I'd better rush out and buy an O/U then.

Beretta28g
I prefer a O/U, they feel right to me, however i sometimes use a S/S. Weight is not a issue for me as i own a Beretta Ultralight 12g which is very light. When something undesirable is about e.g. fox any gun wil do! UKPoacher
I hate S/S guns with a vengeance. They look **** and shoot **** Illogical design. Load of cock O/U anyday Shame Archie Coates didn't know about that. Just think how many pigeons he would have shot if only he'd had a gun that didn't shoot **** What is illogical about a design that sits better on your arm and allows you quicker reloading? Also the SXS barrels are more in line with the sight bead than the bottom barrel of an O/U is. Sounds like you are full of **** to me.
