You've not heard of hibernation then!

As much as it's nice being out on a clear day on the stubbles I do love being out in the winter sitting in the hide with a good cup of coffee and a gun as day breaks.

that sound good i shoot all year round as well and in all weather conditions :good:

Thats the beauty of being a keeper on a small shoot. If you dont beat you dont shoot. If I had a pound for everytime iv said NO or beaters perks then that £166 million last night would look small! got to look after the lads that make the shoot tick in all weathers and not just when its hot in the summer and they are more or less guarenteed a good shoot!

Some of our team wouldnt shoot a laid barley field it has a road round two sides and a childrens playground on another someone else shot it our youngest team member bumped into the guy last week shooting pigeons down into laid barley on another field when he left his hide position was a midden he was using a semi auto (I use one myself) but I dont use plastic wads and I pick up my spent cartridges he did'nt he left his empty cases and all the pigeons I wonder what the farmer will say when he harvests that mess

Counting the days now, before harvest begins and with it the pigeon shooting/lamping rabbits/foxes and stalking the munties and this will go on until the crops are to tall to see anything, come rain/shine or snow.

Been spending most of my time on the paddocks etc and just waiting for harvest :good:

I wouldn't say "no" and lose the permission. If that same farmer was to call, maybe you should arrange to meet him and calmly explain that you feel it unfair that you are there come rain or shine and then get kicked off for fair weather shooters.

Unfortunately the money offered by syndicates sometimes is the winning factor, and there will also be people queueing to shoot the permision even if it doesn't include Harvest.

Good luck

I can understand why you are ****** off, however think of the sporting aspect. those guys are shooting young draft birds. In the winter your really hunting them. Clever birds coming into your deeks on cold windy day. You can't beat that!!! As for the syndicate, well, they are real sportsmen! Shooting daft young pigeons at harvest and overglorified longtail chickens in the winter. would'nt be my idea of a good saturday out with the gun.

Unless of course I'm on the slopes in St Merit darling!

Sadly gone are the days when one had staff to keep the vermin down.

Always makes me laugh this time of year the battle to shoot over rape stubble with a local pigeon guide and other shooter.

Dont remember having that same battle in the winter months when it was minus 18 .

Yet they seem alot more keener in summer :hmm:

Cheers

fair weather shooters thats why

Pigeon tourists!

And after shooting all year round controlling vermin for the farmers, these tubes come along and even have the cheek to look at you as if you've no business being there!!

Often heaps of empty shells left lying around and lots of birds still flying about.

Turned up on my shoot today and spotted the combine harvesting rape. Went for a sandwich and then down to the field and guess what? Three fair weather shooters I hadn't seen all winter / spring already waiting to get onto the stubble.

Still, worked out all right in the end as the shooting tenant told them to fornicate off after today as he was preserving the stubbles for his game bird chicks. He then said the ban doesn't apply to me as I'm the only one who humps wheat to the feeders in snow, shoots the rats, mends the pens, etc, etc. So, from tomorrow it's pigeon heaven
