Hatstand
Who would of thought a bunch of teens nicking trainers and telly's could bring London to its knees. Just been reported that the softly softly approach is being taken because the Police know if a teen rioter dies then the adults will be on the streets and then it will be game over for them. A Inspector has answered calls for troops to be brought in and his reply was, "that would be just stupid". I look forward to seeing the next response from the Met, I'm guessing it will be "duck and cover" or "watch it burn". It must be frightening to be an innocent caught up in all this, you must feel helpless and alone,I really feel for them. Word round here is Bradford is having another bonfire on Friday night, Typical Yorkshire folk trying to make a weekend out of it.
oscarsdad
I have an idea for a potential solution, a bit like the A-team would do... 1. Get one of the shiny new police riot vans 2. Empty back of said riot van and replace internals with a huge coil of copper around an iron block I.e I giant electromagnet with loads of batteries in there as well. Then disguise van as a mobile KFC to attract the homies 3. Drive van into riot, switch on magnet 4. When all the bruvvas are attached to the outside of the van by their bling reaches a few layers, drive van into prison and deposit scum into prison yard by switching off magnet. 5. Repeat How do you like that, 'blood'?

officerdibble777
Wooaaa, this hit is getting way out of hand now. Just got up and looked at the news. I'm sure we're not quite on the verge of civil war as the press would have us believe but enough's enough. If the police can't cope then it's time for the army (and trust me I don't say that lightly. your having a laugh, where is this army going to come from ? Have you not heard, the government are paying lots of them off and sending the rest to all corners of the earth to solve thier problems. And why should this mess be forced on to the ones that are here ? Let the police stop this now,by what ever force it takes john

There is a fine line between stamping on the problem and inflaming it more, teargas watercannon and bullets are just going to inflame things at the moment. The UK is pretty civilised and I would lay money on plenty of additional cell space being available tonight. One things for sure we do most of our work in central London and its a ghost town this morning work is flat as a pancake
mick miller
It'll take more than a bit of screen gel and a bottle of t-cut to sort some of those cars out though Billy.

mpk
I think there is an issue with the general age of the mob as most are youngsters they won't use excessive force (I won't announce my views on here) but they worry about harming a minor then causing more uproar. I heard the youngest arrest was 11 years old Edited August 9, 2011 by mpk
al4x
yep the PM actually made a special note that if they are old enough to do the crime they are old enough to go to court for it. Be interesting what happens tonight,
mpk
I think this may deter the use riot control, tear gas , rubber bullets etc
leeds chimp
As I looked out on the scene of utter destruction... Smashed windows, cars turned upside down, a bus on fire, people running scared, police retreating or just looking on in horror... I turned to SWMBO and said... "Never mind darling, you did your best, but maybe I should reverse park the car next time?"

Lack of Public order training and riot kit? No. It ain't gone a happen because it's August. And that means that virtually everybody that isn't currently in the Sandpit, is on block leave. Raja Clavata
29,000 children dead in Somalia due to famine and teenagers rioting in London because of lack of opportunities... I just hope the airports stay open until Sunday - I've never looked forward to going to a third world country so much even if it is primarily for work.
