Bit of a classic this one.

My missus works in an office that keep records for medical companies, she is the only one in the office without a degree.

They had a few new computers delivered and my missus built hers and helped the others out, while doing so the screen needed screwing to a bracket. She asked for one of the lads (who has a doctorate) to get her a phillips screw driver. His reply.... but the screen is a Samsung.

To say my missus ripped it out of this bloke who has been to university for 7 years is an understatement.

Ah but I am sure that the lad (who has a doctorate) can spell supposedly and university.......

I went to uni and did engineering but did have to do a practical course as they believed that if you ask the welder/fitter to do something it was better that you had an idea what they could do. Was easy for me as i grew up on a farm and got stuck in doing all the practical stuff as soon as i could. I have no problems building a new shed or stripping a tractor engine but know lots of people from uni who struggle with the concept of a cup of tea. Big difference between knowledge and intelligence.

Sigh.

What it comes down to is the difference between practical and theoretical expertise. Both are important, but some folk start from the practical end and work up with experience, and the others start with lots of theoretical training and then grow through practical experience.

Where I work is populated by people with no qualifications whatsoever to people with Doctorates. Each end of the spectrum thinks the other is hopeless, as is human nature. The fact is that neither could do each others jobs, they have to merge somewhere in the middle. I dont have a university education, I dont even have A-levels, but that doesnt mean I feel threatened by those who do.

Snobbery and inverse snobbery is just ignorance.

My father-in-Law was a brilliant conservation architect,he was knighted.

He was a an exceptional visionary and mathematician. He could also lead people but he wasn't the greatest at practical work. He told me this. Sometimes "horses for courses" is a great thing to understand as we are all generally useless at everything.

Support the good and the great and reap the benefits.

I heard some female bellend on the radio yesterday banging on about how great it is that a D pass at GCSE (easy o level) is going to be considered a valid grade in future instead of a cut off point at grade C. Everyone seems to have A levels nowadays, yet 30 years ago they were the preserve of the strictly academic. I know that people aint getting cleverer, i meet divvies every day who can barely speak let alone take .79p out of a quid and give you the correct change instantly. p.s you can tell how thick people are by the explosion in tattoo parlours, they are everywhere. Biggest u.k. growth industry. Says something.!!!

sorry to offend any one was only a little funny story would hope people would just laugh at it. No chip on my shoulder i had uni offers but decided to go work totally my choice but most of my mates went to uni and have nothing agaisnt them.

Still though no matter what any one says about qualifications etc you have to be some sort of plonka to get to 35 and not know what a phillips screwdriver is. I would of told the story even if the bloke dropped out of school at ten years old.
