Lord Geordie
Totally overhanded. I will sleep safer at night knowing a Child on his bike gets that sort of attention when the smack head on my estate who threatened to chop people up walks round unhindered. jacksdad
Whilst I would normally agree with the above, I do feel the 'security' guy acted as he has been trained to do: caught in the corner of his eye, someone heading towards the torch, and reacted  Another case of can't win whatever the result.....would you rather he just made his own decisions as to what is a risk and what isn't? I just feel sorry for all of them and glad that no-one was actually hurt

jacksdad
I'd rather he did as he was told and stopped ANYONE who heads out of line....but throwing them under a moving car would be a bit over the top, I admit! Nial see the mets response seems he was not a kid but a "male" and he "fell" from his bike ooh another rib goes. lying toe rags KW The Olympic torch’s security team got to grips with a cyclist, who according to police “attempted to enter the security bubble around the torchbearer.” Met Police, who take responsibility for the Olympic torch's security workers, said of the incident in Suffolk on Saturday: "A male on a pedal cycle attempted to enter the security bubble around the torchbearer. The Met's torch security team prevented him from gaining access to the torchbearer and the male fell off his bike. He immediately got back on his bike and left," they told the BBC. Diceman
At the risk of invoking Godwin' Law: "The modern convention of moving the Olympic Flame via a relay system from Greece to the Olympic venue began in 1936. Carl Diem devised the idea of the torch relay for the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin that was organized by the Nazis under the guidance of Joseph Goebbels. Krupp armaments company produced the torches in wood and metal, inspired by an olive leaf. The Olympic Flame was lit by a concave mirror in Olympia, Greece and transported over 3,187 kilometres by 3,331 runners in twelve days and eleven nights from Greece to Berlin. Leni Riefenstahl later staged the torch relay for the 1938 film Olympia. The film was part of the Nazi propaganda machine’s attempt to add myth and mystique to Adolf Hitler’s regime. Hitler saw the link with the ancient Games as the perfect way to illustrate his belief that classical Greece was an Aryan forerunner of the modern German Reich.[5] There were minor protests in Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia on the way, which were suppressed by the local security forces."
