pigeon controller
We went out Friday morning looking for cut rape after about an hour of driving we found two small fields that had been cut with loads of birds on them. We know on this farm they have just had the poults delivered and they are close to the two fields. The wind was very strong and blowing from the pens so we hoped that they would let us shoot. On contacting the farmer all was ok as long as we did not shoot towards the pens. We drove the field and decided the safest way to shoot was from a tree in the centre of the field. We set up and started to shoot there was a house in the left of us on the edge of the field but a safe distance away. We let the first bird come into the pattern to see the reaction and it came straight in and landed DB shouted at it and shot it as it flew away. During the day we had to move the magnet five times to try and make them come into the pattern this was due to the wind changing slightly during the day. After four hours the keeper drove across to us to ask us to stop shooting as they had received complaints about the noise!!! So we packed up .We picked up two hundred and fifty two pigeons at the end. This would have been a megga day if we had not been stopped. Saturday saw us driving around looking for cut rape again we travelled for about fifty miles and found lots of fields part cut but no birds. We found a field and contacted the farmer and he gave us the OK. We ended up at 12.30 setting up on a cut field with a lot of birds on it but it had been cut high and the birds were dropping on the old tyre tracks and walking through the stalks to feed. This made it very difficult to decoy them as they saw the decoys but would not try and land just vere off. At 13.30 we had a call asking us to come and shoot the crows that were on the barley stubble on another farm so we packed up and drove down to the field. There were a few jackdaws on it but more pigeon so we set up and shot till 18.00. We picked up one hundred and sixteen pigeon and fiftyfour blackies. hedge
Very well done you. I would donate body parts to get shooting like that. A very good advert why doing your homework is so important (most of us probably wouldn't want to do some much mileage looking for a `hot` field). pigeon controller
Hi cocker3, we do not check our ratio normally but over this last weekend we carry 150 each and we ran out on both days. In the past if it is going to be a mega day we go back to the disco for more. These days we restrict ourselves to help transportation off the field and also freezing. Thanks for your comments.
