Northamptonclay
Benelli every time :-)
poontang
Beretta Xtrema every time for me. SX3's and the Maxus are good guns and good value, so a safe bet. Benelli's are too light and kick the **** out of you, especially with heavy loads.
BerettaSV10
Hard one as some very good choices listed, as a benelli suporter I would go with the M2.
sitsinhedges
There's a reason why most of the Argentina high volume dove hunting footage shows the Beretta as the gun of choice. Same as the reason why most auto using claybashers use a Beretta too.
Paul T
My Urika is a 3" chamber (I think ) though I've never put anything over 2 & 3/4 through it. If I needed the bigger chamber size (and my budget could stretch to it) then it's the Extrema every time for me . If not, then it would be the Urika. Tried Benellis and they feel lovely and light - till you pull the trigger and realise that nice to carry doesn't mean nice to shoot! Personally I prefer something that can soak up the recoil a bit better.

Guest topshot_2k
Winchester SX3 for me, excellent, reliable gun. Worth looking at Remington 1187 as well. never had an issue with that either. Use it for 26g upto 50g
BlaserF3
Because they can't afford a Benelli? Because they can't afford a Benelli? If you look at prices World wide for all Benelli shotguns, the UK is the most expensive place to buy one, Every where else they are a "cheap" gun. Guest topshot_2k
Escorts are cheap and nasty. I paid about £80 more than a new escort for my Browning Fusion Gold and its in a different league, no cheap plastics etc

Breastman
Are people using their foreheads instead of their shoulders to fire Benelli's?? They do not recoil hard at all In some competitions i can get through 300-500 carts in a day (and not just ghey clay loads, 32g #6's, 36g SG's and snappy slug cartridges) and i've never felt 'battered' by it. I've also put a few boxes of 50g #1's through it and it felt considerably softer than the O/U i also used! More of a fitting or psychosomatic issue i suspect Re: reliability - i've finally found some cartridges mine doesn't like - Kent Velocity 28g #7.5's (Blue case) 1 jam in 100. Weird as i've used the clear hulled ones without an issue  Edited September 20, 2012 by Breastman
figgy
Sx3 for me no recoil, it fits me and cheap enough not to have to worry about it getting wet and filthy on the marsh, fires all the carts I need to shoot from clay loads to 31/2 goose loads. All the guns you have listed in your poll are good guns. All will serve you well, just gunfit and price should dictate what you go for. All gas operated are softer shooting but inertia like benelli are easier to clean. Figgy
Catweazle
I haven't owned your chosen list, so can't rank them, but I have had a Winchester 1400, Remington 1100, Spas12 and AL390 and currently have an A400 Unico. You want a rough gun - the A400 is very light. You want a "steel" gun, so assuming heavy fowl loads - the A400 has Kickoff3 so heavy loads won't bother you and it's proofed for HP Steel and 3.5". Mine has happily cycled from 21g Eley First upwards without a single failure* ( *except for the Hushpower subsonic cartridges which are very very soft ). That includes 2.5" cartridges. It's a bit of a "jack of all trades" gun, so it won't be a master of anything, but it's useful if you don't want a whole collection.
