Marine1980
I really do feel sorry for the guy but any serving soldier knows if you bring souvenirs back you risk the chance of getting caught no matter where you got it from! As it says in the article he only had memory problems etc after he brought it back in the country! It's not a cut and dry case and I feel remorse for the family but I can't see how he wasn't going to get in trouble! Only my 10 pence worth. mudpatten
Lets just wait until we get a few contributors from the "Hang `em high" police thread along. They will back up my assertion that you can`t have one set of rules for one section of society, and another set for somebody else. An error of judgement. It was packed away by other members and sent back to Hereford, where it stayed for a few years. Before he took his gear back home. An error of judgement. yes but what "rules" were broken. in the police thread someone was injured, this soldier didn't cause anyone any harm. It is competely possible that he forgot about it. And then there's the fact that his family have suffered as well. "He intended to have it decommissioned and hung on the SAS sergeants’ mess wall as a war trophy, alongside dozens of others amassed by the regiment in operations."
