Kes
I have always used Avast on our 3 computer - laptops and big system - It is excellent, highly recommendable and is updated automatically when you connect via the interenet. Never had any problems because it is so effective. Cheers Edited November 26, 2012 by Kes
Bangon
Better still is just use the free 30 day trials of the expensive software likes of Norton, Kapersky Mcafee etc. as soon as one runs out just load another free trial. harpoonlouis
AVG, Avast either pretty good. Can I recommend that you remove your old AV first otherwise they can clash and cause some strange results

station
go on the GMTV website and download Microsoft security essentials , it will do it all for you and most importantly ITS FREE Works with your pc and has the least impact on performance - in my opinion. Plus it's free and updates through Windows Update.
ollie
Thanks guys. I just downloaded the free version of Avast. 39TDS
Most folk that know about these things will say not AVG and will recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. I use MSE and find it excellent (after changing from AVG) Norton is worse than any virus I have ever encountered.
activeviii
there was a debate recently between Microsoft and Avast. it was proved there these is still a need for a full AV program as MSE was still letting things past. most free AV try to install web browsers so just check/uncheck the box. you can also install a cloud base AV like Immunet, its a web base program so doesn't drag down your pc, threats are hard to hide with a web base scanner and it will work alongside PC base AV. pimpkiller
I use security essentials and spybot search and destroy. I used to use AVG but found spybot much faster, simpler and picks up on things that others dont. I also use CCleaner to clean up the registry and keep the computer running fast.
