woodcock1
Spent friday evening rough shooting round home, infact i didnt drive on friday evening at all. Shot some low lying fields along the lower Bann river. Flushed numerous ducks from drains and ditches. I managed 5 mallard for 6 shots. I also hunted a little bit of rough ground or moss as its known locally and flushed half a dozen woodcock, two of which I managed to bag. Inspired by seeing so many woodcock yesterday in the little cover I had done I decided to concentrate on woodcock today on the low ground. We dont normally get many woodcock round my house until there is a few days really hard frost which pushes them down off the hills above us. Anyway I set out today hoping for a couple or three but to my surprise they were in every nook and cranny of available cover. I was shooting really well and feeling confident with my set up. When I got to 10 I headed for home. Always wanted to get to double figures in a day. In the short distance back to the car parked at at neighbours yard I flushed two more real testers one of which was coming toward me some 30yds high which I couldnt resist and suprised a teal from a wet ditch. This was one of the most sporting weekends I have ever had and certainly my best day at the woodcock. A photo of yesterdays bag: And a photo from this evening:

woodcock1
I must admit, this is the first time I have used the auto this year. I used it on friday for the duck and shot so well with it i thought I would give it a try on the woodcock. It is after all a benelli woodcock doing what it was made for.
