Pick up your rubbish

Recently a farmer advertised for shooters to come and shoot over his rape, he has planted allot of rape in around six fields and needless to say the rape was taking a beating by pigeons, I think the farmer was so desperate to save his crop he didn’t vet to much the shooters that flocked to his aid, and there by the story begins, one would be shooter set his hide and decoys up next to a gas gun, without turning the gas gun off, and was somewhat dismayed after several hours on not having bagged any pigeons, when asked why he had not turned the gas gun off replied I didn’t know how to. Another dead eyed shot dually set his hide and decoys out and relaxed back in wait for the first victim, world war 3 broke out on sighting his first victim, and after emptying approximately 150 cartridges claimed to have dispatched 80 plus pigeons, where were the body’s indeed where were the feathers no doubt these birds had been picked up by foxes, eagles, dogs, cats, ect ect. I and a shooting mate walked the entire perimeter after many shooters had visited, and found quite a considerable amount of dead cartridges left where they had been fired all around the perimeter, I have always picked up my dead shells and any other rubbish I may have brought with me to a farm, is it not manors would you expect someone to dump their rubbish in your garden, would you expect to be asked back again.

picking up any and all spent cartridges is always a good idea cos when you go back and find more then you know someone else is shooting over that ground .Got a ####ing of a farmer for leaving spent cartridges in a field that he was having cut by contractors the machine kept stopping as it had a metal detector that cut the motor out when any metal found this was to protect the blades. As he was paying by the hour he was't happy nor was I as it had been a guest on our shoot that left them could tell this by the type/make of cartridges found.

Thats the trouble shooting over land where others shoot, not everybody has the same ethics, i will only shoot fibre wads and never leave any rubbish. recently i shot a field with a friend and we picked 75 empty cartridges up from one spot

Not cleaning up after you ,seems to be a problem in all walks of life.

I certainly wouldn't leave anything anywhere, I would feel so guilty.

I go sea fishing too, and one time I was fishing next to a guy with his son, who was about 10 years old. As he was leaving, I noticed he'd left a load of rubbish, plastic bag, newspaper that had bits of rotten bait in it, and a dirty smelly old rag. So I said 'Excuse me,I think you've forgotten something.' He just said "**** off" . What chance have you got with people like that. A nice way to bring up your kids too.

Even the canteen at work, people just leave their empty plastic cups on the table, and crisp packets, chocolate wrappers ,banana skins etc, on tables, and just walk out. There isn't any cleaners or anything like that.

I just don't understand it.

If anyone with me, leaves anything out in the field, they won't be invited again, simple as that.

When a farmer invites you on to his land to shoot he is granting you a privelegde. Leaving ANY LITTER or spent shells/brass cases or whatsoever is disrespectful to the farmer and his land and an abuse of the priveledge that you have been given. If you do so then you deserve to loose that priveledge!

I often have shooters up at a quarry for target practice, zeroing and "plinking. Even though this part of the quarry is being back filled I always insist on all of us having a thorough check to ensure that we have not left as much as an empty .22 case lying about.

As has already been quite rightly said by many others on this thread - "Leave only footprints" - It's as simple as that!
