Evening All

looking at the video's on you tube, there seems to be a lot of people using semi-auto's. I can see the benefits, low recoil and if you are a new pigeon shooter like me the third shot may just hit the blxxdy pigeon.

Not looking to spend a lot.... would anyone recommend a remington 1100 trap as there seems to be alot around for sub £350 or would a new hansa be better value?

Also is a camo version worth buying??

cheers

Steve

yes you could go go for a new hatsan escort for around £370 but make sure its the newest model with extended chokes,

or a used beretta 301, 302, 303 around that price

the thing with semi autos is you have to keep them clean and clean the gas ports in barrel with pipe cleaners, also generally dont use anything under 67mm cartridges and nothing under 28g and it should cycle fine

not sure about the camo version, its personal preference mate, up to you

I've got an armsan A 612 and it hasn't skipped a beat. I've put a couple of thousand carts thro it, mainly 28 and 30 g for clays and pigeon but its also had a couple of boxes of 24g through it too. I'm selling it as I need the space in my cabinet for a fac semi auto and a .22 . If I can have it changed over cheaply enough I will be keeping it. I'm waiting for a call back from Neville's re. The cost. I fully expect it to be cheaper to sell it and buy a second hand fac version tho.

Anyway. If you get chance to try one out, do. I've enjoyed shooting mine

Gets me going when they Talk Hatsans, see how many of the type they are talking about are for SALE.

Not many Hatsans Eh: People are buying them, why, because they now know its the type of chamber you buy and cartridges you put through it that is the problem. 3.5" for clay shooting, pull the other one:

or buy a Beretta A400 light like i did then shoot it for 18 months =10k carts without cleaning it at all without a missfire then sell it on with a £125 quid loss happy days :)

I love my Beretta A400 light...SELF CLEANING.....to be honest I don't take it apart now no point . I don't think I would leave it for that amount of shots but it shows quality and good simple engineering ....

The gun shop saddlery and gunroom have a (30565) BERETTA 301 Auto 12G Second Hand £390.00

(15150) BROWNING A500 12G AUTO 12G AUTO Second Hand £450.00

Personally i would look at the beretta as i have always liked they way they look and have great records. You could also consider a franchi 48 al. I have one and for 2 3/4" cartridges (max) it is great. Mne will cycle 21 g target rounds but can shoot up to 42g heavies. Give it a good clean and a light lube and it should keep singing.

If you have access to a range talk to a few shooters about shooting a few shells through their guns to see what you like the best and fits you. As with any other gun fit is critical and autos are no exception.

I have shot Remingtons with great success for a lot of years, had a Beretta I wish I had kept and now shoot a Browning that I really like over all you can't go wrong with any of them provided they fit you.

I would opt for a field stock over a trap gun as the trap stock is designed to shoot a bit high and I like a flat shooting gun for field work but to each his/her own.

As has been stated, at your budget look at a second hand Beretta as they will outlast your Hatsan **** no problem. I have had both and there is no comparison. I once stupidly bought a Hatsan mainly so a friend who at the time did not have an SGC could use it when we went out. The build quality was tunk and some how the tube (my friend that is) managed to catch his thumb, quite badly in the mechanism (this of course was his fault and nothing to do with the gun). I would not say that I was a great shot but in general can pick up most guns and hit where I am pointing. With the Hatsan I could not hit anything. I have known many people who have owned a Hatsan but do not know any who have kept them. Beretta and Browning owners I can tell you do tend to like there guns and hold on to them. Pay for quality only pay once, get cheap prepare for the unmistakable urge to get rid.

If you can get a benelli for the right price then go for it they are great guns and one of the easiest semis to clean as they are inertia operated so no scrubbing gas parts to get rid of carbon build up

Id agree with that, i love my remington but after having a play with a new m2, if i was to go out now and buy another auto it would definitely be a benelli!
