YoungShotJonny
Just wondering which cartridge to buy for when I go crow decoying. I went shooting the other day and used eley 28gram 7 1/2 shot fibre cartridges, they are good value for money but a lot of the time it wasn't a clean kill or a few feathers just fell down and it carried on flying. Need some recommendations please, e.g. shot no., brand. Also which chokes are the best, at the moment i am using 1/4 and a 1/2??
superspark
I find that 32g 5 shot works well on crows and rooks as I shoot a lot of them. I usualy put in half and three quater chokes and find this set up very deadly to these corvids. Concealment is the name of the game as these ******* are very clever and have eye sight second to none. Vince Green
7 1/2 is a bit too small for crows. Pigeons are a big bird with a small body. You are going to get a lot of feathers. I would say 32g no6 shot but there is always someone to disagree on here. Edited April 13, 2013 by Vince Green

eccles
Hi , I use quarter and half coke. 7. 1/2 trap bottom and no6 top or no 6 in both if they ain't coming in close. I don't move a muscle and let them come in i like to see the FEAR in their eyes when they realize they are in the wrong place. They are easy to decoy IMO keep your movement to a minimum. Salop Matt
30/32gram 5`s/6`s ! Gamebore clear pigeon are an excellent cartridge worth the money. I use them through a 1/2 choke in the semi ! And they dont like it up em !
Tim85
Although new to the sport, I have been using Express - Pigeon Special's, 30g No 6's - Fibre Wad through half and 3/4 chokes. I haven't had a shot at a pigeon yet but they bring the Rooks and Crows down easily. Made a good 40 yard shot left to right at a good speed on Saturday and it hit the deck dead. Although when I checked it over if did have a nice head shot in it, im thinking I should take more shots from a sitting position! I may change my mind as I get better but I can not see a pigeon boucing them off!
wildfowler.250
28g 7 1/2s are fine if they are close. I've shot plenty with 19g 7's out if a .410! Generally use 32g 6's,(express) as I use them for game anyway
BIFFYBOY
hiya m8 i went out last week pigeon shooting set up on some beans then settled down for some pigeon shooting, only to find i had dropped on a flight line that the crows where using i was shooting gamebore 32g 6's clear pigeon cartridges i ended up with 11 crows (killed) 4 crows hit hard but just managed to fly onto other land that wasn't mine and 6 pigeon and alot of the crows were shot at good distances i was well impressed with the cartridges good job really as i paid £200 for a 1000 shot them thru my winchester o/u 1/4 3/4 chokes. but i must say i was shooting really well that day BIFFYBOY

Gregthegreat
I use 30/32g of 5s/6s. Through full choke for all of my decoying! I find either a clean kill or a clean miss! but thats ny own preference , leave ur chokes alone and swap cartridges to 5s or 6s +1. Full choke all the way, if you hit it, it's generally going down. The difference between branded equivalents isn't going to be worth considering. Ask your dealer what he's got in the way of 5's or 6's (personally prefer 5's on corvids) and take it from there. Greg.
