Big Al
I am considering buying a Browning 325. Iknow that the older browning / mirokus did not have chromed barrels but I am wondering how much of an issue this is. After a really wet day I always take care to dry the metalwork of my guns inside and out. I then oil the inside and outside well. One of the guns I already own is an older Miroku 20 bore and I haven't had a problem yet. Or have I just been lucky?
al4x
Nope you've looked after them so been fine, its only an issue if you don't clean them. Which just means check what you buy well and then carry on doing as you do

triumphant59
Rusting is one of many problems with Brownings, stick with Beretta, far better quality!
Big Al
Rusting is one of many problems with Brownings, stick with Beretta, far better quality! I dont seem to get on too well with Berettas! It took me 15 years and two Beretta O/Us to discover that I am a Browning man! As well as the Miroku 20 bore, I also own a B525 hunter. I have one Beretta - an Xtrema 1 semi auto, but I have slithers of old Tesco cards pushed into the neck to get the cast and drop right! Thanks for the replies - it is what I was thinking but you always get people sayin "Dont get one of those, they rust like *******!"
HDAV
Rusting is one of many problems with Brownings, stick with Beretta, far better quality! Really? care to name the others? Rusting is more a maintenance issue than quality.............
studley
My friends Browning 325 has slightly rusty barrels on the outside (I don't think they are chromed as opposed to Berretta's). However it doesn't stop him being a better shot than me, and his gun still works. Probably just needs an oily wipe over and sounds like you're the type to look after them. figgy
Just mop it out with a bit oil after cleaning and it should last a lifetime. Or but a newer one with the chrome lined barrels. Figgy Edited May 12, 2013 by figgy
Big Al
Or but a newer one with the chrome lined barrels. Figgy I already have a newer one - the reason I'm thinking of going for an older one is that it is a grade 5. The older grade 5s are the only ones I'll every afford! Thanks again guys. craig hill
I have a 325 grade2 1990, one previous owner, bores are mint, look after it and it will outlast you.
welshwarrior
Keep the bores clean don't use black powder and they will outlast all of us. Just check for pitting when you buy it
Dangerous Brian
I have a grade 5 325 with mint barrels too. Just never put it away wet and look after it properly and you should be fine.
BrowningDJC
I have brownings as early as 1958, as the others have said if you maintain and clean them properly you wont have any issues. None of my brownings have a spot of rust anywhere on them. Any gun will rust if not cleaned properly! My over and unders have been soaked through on shoot days, and it has done them no harm. At the end of the day if you spend the money on a gun of that value its worth taking the time to look after it properly. I much prefer my brownings to any beretta. the pigeon man
Had my 325 for years as long it's looked after it will last for ever like anything really
B725
Any gun cleaned and oiled will last, rust on any gun is only down to it not being looked after.
Cumbrian
I believe that some of the genuine Belgian made Brownings i.e. non-Miroku ones had a problem with rusting (1960s- early 70s?) because salt was used for a while as a short cut to dry out/season the wood for the stocks and fore ends and this leeched out onto the metal when wet, with dire consequences for the unsuspecting. I'm open to correction on this, however. I have two Miroku-made 325s and, like the majority here, have had no problems whatsoever with rust internally or externally, though I am careful about drying them out, oiling etc. Great guns; I love them. Churchill
It doesn't matter what gun you have, if you neglect it then it will start to rust eventually. A mate of mine has a Beretta 686 that's half the age of my two and it was neglected by the previous owner. The amount of rust on the outside of the barrels is shocking. Big Al
Thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can do a deal then. If I manage to get it I'll post a couple of pics.
