gazbev
Is it only me or do other people not clean their chokes every time they shoot the gun? My mate gets a toothbrush on his chokes and scrubs them inside and out every time he uses the gun, me on the other hand take them out after every couple of thousand shots. I put them in the gun when it was brand new with some copper grease, I had the gun for a few months and my mate could not believe I hadn't cleaned then when I told him and advised me to clean them ASAP . I took them out and they were perfect perhaps a little dark nearer the end of the thread, so I put them back in with the grease and left them for a thousand more and they were perfect. The only thing I do do is I make sure I can unscrew them by giving them half a turn out after cleaning and tighten them again, they are Mobil chokes on a beretta if that makes a difference? So am I heading for trouble or must I clean them like my mate
Iced Tiger
I also clean mine after every outing with a toothbrush. Gun grease (Napier) them before I screw them back in

Malik
Every week, not every time. I tend to shoot twice a week, so just give it all a clean at the end

Hamster
I clean my gun at least once a year, the chokes once every six months whether they need it or not.
steve_b_wales
A good grease to use after cleaning the choke/barrel threads is copper slip, which can be bought at most car accessories shops. It's an excellent product, and I have been using it for over 25 years.
Guest cookoff013
about every 2nd time clay shooting, so once a month.
njc110381
If I know I'll be using the gun again fairly soon I don't bother every time, just once a month or so. If it's going back in the cabinet for a long break then I'll clean and grease it. I don't shotgun shoot that much - I haven't fired my semi auto since the new year clay shoot so before it was put away I gave it a good going over. Steveco36
Yep, after each shoot I pop the chokes out to clean, the way I look at it I gotta clen the rest of it so as it only takes a few seconds to pop them out as well while I'm at it! gazbev
Thanks for the replies but is there a point to cleaning them so often ?
Hamster
No there isn't. They don't function any differently or better but you must make sure they are not forgotten about to the extent that they rust and seize in the tube. seeker
think you answered your question when you checked yours after x thousand shots ... Maybe you should approach the makers of the copper lube for sponsorship on the grounds their product is proven to prevent choke seizures for ages when lesser products only work once? henry d
No, only do them on a "Whenever" basis.

gazbev
I could settle for fixed chokes I never take half and quarter out. I only use copper slip on the threads it's nothing special any high temperature grease will do
OvEr_KiLL
using beretta white grease on mine and on the friction points of the action and ejectors
-Mongrel-
As and when for me too, they are extended chokes though and get regularly twiddled so have never stuck.
kev56
+1 for copper slip, occasionally remove and clean them, can't see the point of doing it every time, when the barrel is cleaned the bore of the chokes is done at the same time.
