Friday saw us starting out at 12.00 as DB had some important work to get out . We drove out to the closest rape stubble as I had seen it beig cut when I was crow shooting in the week. We passed the field and it was covered so we drove down to the farm to confirm permission. We were allowed to shoot it as long as we shot away from the game birds and from a specific tree. This proved to be the downfall of us as the birds wanted to pass to our right and we were unable to shoot due to the buildings and the road. We shot from 13.00 to 17.00 four hours in total, We had to change the pattern many times to try and get the birds to pass on our left. If we could have shot unrestricted it would have been a mega day . We picked up one hundred and eighty one pigeons and seven crows after four hours shooting. MAGIC.

Saturday saw us at the same farm looking at the wheat stubble as we had seen a large number of birds passing over it when we were on the rape. We drove the field and spooked about one hundred birds off the field and it was 10.30 . We phoned the farmer and he said give it a go, so we set up under a tree in the centre of the field . The field had been shot on Wednesday but the birds came into our twelve fresh birds from the day before all put out on spikes as natural as possible. After about twenty minutes a tractor arrived and informed us that he was going to subsoil drill it and then disc it , so we decided to leave. Thinking about rape stubble we phoned one of our farmers and he informed us that he had cut his rape in the week and the field was "Blue Over" as it is ten miles away we blasted down the motorway as the quickest way of getting to the farm. We drove onto the field and about three hundred birds lifted off. We set up and the wind was very strong and kept changing direction this caused the birds to twist and turn as they approached the pattern this caused some tricky shooting. We had to abandon the magnet as it was being blown all over the place by the rough winds. We had set up at approx 12.00 and shot till 18.00 and we picked up two hundred and twenty three pigeon. Indeed RAPE STUBBLE HEAVEN.
