join the club, sky s worth very penny, still if you cant afford it you can always moan at the cost.

How about this one then.

I don't like football, not keen on cricket, snooker or athletics, cycling etc. Everything I want to watch I can get on Eurosport. I can afford Sky but don't consider it good value. For me, Sky's not worth a lot at all, let alone every penny of their inflated cost.

I'm not getting it guys, for £2 odd per day it's a lot of entertainment.

I think it's actually very good value for money. Hundreds of channels, On Demand, record and watch when you like etc etc.

How much does it cost to go to a football, cricket, rugby match? Howuch doe one night at the pictures cost?

Sky have in my view done a fantastic job and offer good value for money.

I don't have a clue how anyone who isn't already retired, whether they're single or married, with children or not, has time to watch the drivel on the TV?

There are a hundred and one other things that I would rather be doing that don't involve so sitting on my backside and two hundred and one that I would rather not do but need doing anyway.

It can't just be me?

Not your usual perspective -.

I take it you approve of phone-hacking, overcharging, nepotism and control of markets ?

I thought you banked with the Coop.

While News Corp might not be the most ethical company in the world, BSkyB are a 1st class business - run very very well. I know people who work for them - Sky are very ambitous in everything they do, and do it well. Nothing is done half-baked. Personally I have nothing to do with them - at least not directly. I have Virgin media for my TV - who do license Sky channels, but I think i'll be dropping that soon too.

Well after months of "I must get round to doing it" - I finally got round to doing it. I cancelled Sky TV.

Just about had enough of paying for something that's essentially free, plus I dislike Murdoch et al rather a lot. I've got a Freesat box that will pay for itself in 5 months however the satisfaction of not giving ol' Rupey any more of my hard earned pennies is worth just as much.

When asked why I wanted to cancel the account I replied that 'I don't want to pay to watch TV anymore'. The Eton-educated, bright young thing at the other end then went silent and proceeded to offer me a discount of £8 per month. I had to bite my tongue really hard . Anyway, 10 minutes later and after hearing Ms Bimbo reply to my EVERY sentence with 'That's absolutely fine', she confirmed it all stops on December 17.

Flippin eck just in time to miss the **** they offer up at Christmas. I wish I could cancel my sky but I live in an area where I would have no TV signal at all. Every house in our area has sky because it's the only way to watch TV.

I couldn't remove Sky as I watch too much sport. NFL coverage is great on Sky Sports and it and football are my favourite sports. When myself and my wife were arguing about sky, I told her that if I didn't get Sky Sports I would have to go to the pub to watch the football and 6 pints later it would work out more expensive in the long run. I also love the documentary channels too much, the likes of Discovery and Nat Geo.

As per the above posts - Freesat is an option for you if you already have the dish and cabling. Freesat is a non-subscription, satellite TV service. Depending on what receiver box you buy, you can record / pause channels etc in the same way as a Sky plus box. Some new TVs have both Freeview and Freesat tuners in them to cover both options.

Or, you could just cancel your Sky subscription and receive what are called the "free-to-air" channels via satellite. Or, you could cancel your Sky subscription and get a "Freesat from Sky" card (£20 or so) which is similar to Freesat, but probably has slightly different channels, isn't actually free after all (as you need to buy the card as a one-off cost) and Sky may stop the card at any time if they decide to do so.

Confused? Bottom line is all the above is available via the satellite dish installation you already have if you have Sky. Just really depends on what channels you want to receive.

I just use the sky hd box to get basic channels now.

What did **** me off was after being with them for at least 15 years when I stopped subscribing everything I had recorded disappeared.

Seeing as I paid for it when I recorded it surely it was mine to keep
