turbo33
The numbers of Magpies round here seem to have suddenly increased quite dramatically. Anyone else noticing the same?
evo
I have noticed a big increase around the towns, they are about in numbers also but out on my perms they have stayed about the same, well except the ones I,ve shot, everywhere I look around the towns you see magpies , its no wonder the suited killer is increasing what with all the food outlets and the amount of waste, atb Evo

Oops Missed Again
Yes down in Zumerzet they are on the increase. A great surviver that seems to eat anything.
Salop Matt
In and around towns the numbers have increased loads, on the farms and small holdings I shoot over its like a ghost town !

Paul taylor
Loads on my permission a dairy farm. I have neglected them lately I must admit, really should either do an early morning with decoys and air rifle or later on with the shotgun. bruno22rf
Hardly any here in Bucks-but I have been trapping them over the last 2 years and releasing them in Surrey
PhilR
Sure you're not releasing them in MK Bruno. It's rammed round here with them. In Howe Park Wood along one ride I counted 36! They've got wise to not coming in my garden now.
hawkfanz
they keep appearing round here so me an my neighbour usually manage to shoot about a dozen every summer with the air rifles we just got 2 left now to get till next time, but there,s a big increase in crows an jackdaws around the houses. Alycidon
The numbers of Magpies round here seem to have suddenly increased quite dramatically. Anyone else noticing the same? Yes, Larsens only yielded about 40 last year against 140 the year before. Stopped trapping this time end of June and had not seen many till October. Late trapping tends to pick up any youngsters coming onto my ground from outside. A
Oops Missed Again
Listening to radio 4 today (yes sad old b)and a programme confirmed my findings in some parts of the country there is a large increase in magpies. Unlike pigeons which have disappeared in my area. Perhaps the chap on PW who was hung drawn quartered and his bits sent to Coventry and burnt had the right idea about a closed season for pigeons. Sean Richo
Yes noticed loads around north west lately.

Brad93
Lots this year, air rifle and shotgun have been travelling with me to all my permissions lately, even the lakes I fish, as the songbirds are taking a hit. I have also seen a decrease in pigeons. South Essex Edited January 9, 2014 by Brad93
southdowns_stalking
Have noticed a huge increase around the towns and villages but not so many out on the farms. Maybe they are learning that its easy pickings in more urban areas like the foxes are?
Crash72
At my local McDonald's there are always 10 + in the parking lot. Lots in the cities and city parks. When I have been in the countryside there seem to be more magpies than pigeons and crows.
