As a retired rigger who spent a lot of time repairing aircraft bird-strike damage, clakk has got it about right and nearer his top end I'd say - much faster and that splatter would have been liquidiized. Once had an owl extruded between the top of a Jaguar front screen and the front of the canopy at 450 knots with, unbelievably, no real damage - but the mess!!?

I notice he didn't drive to the garage!

saw this once when i used to fit windscreens, old range rover on the a1, tankin it, hit the pheasant just where the roof has that little lip and the screen, chap in the back was taken to hatfield hospital to have bits of bone removed from his face, left a perfect outline of him on the back seat!

I picked a pheasant of a ladies lap after it went through the screen of her Fiat Multipla (the stupid looking thing with the high lights)

She couldn't have been going more than 50-60 at time of impact, the pheasant came out of the hedge...

Surprised it went though, but not a as surprised as the lady with the mouth full of feathers...
