Zetter
Hi All Daft Question time. I have just acquired a Semi Auto shotgun for the first time normally shooting an over and under. Now I have a breach flag for it and know that when carrying it in the slip/moving around at the clay ground the bolt will be open and the flag will be in. But I was wondering how do you normally store them when in the cabinet is it best with the bolt back and the flag in? This seems best practice from a safety point of view to show the gun is safe but I was wondering if it need to be bolt forward to keep stress off the bolt during storage. Generally I only shoot every couple of weeks so its not like I will be using it every day. Cheers Neil
silver pigeon 3
I always store mine with the bolt forward, but pull the bolt back when it is taken out the cabinet and put In the slip.
saddler
...when in the cabinet is it best with the bolt back and the flag in? This seems best practice from a safety point of view to show the gun is safe Does your cabinet have many passing visitors with unrestricted access to the contents? If not, then don't bother with the chamber flag/open bolt when it is stored
Zetter
Cheers Both it what I was thinking but wanted to know what was common practice. And no as it should be I am the only one with access to the cabinet/ keys.

Subaru_sti5
Would u store an O/U or SxS broken in a cabinet?..... No, so no need to do it with a semi.
CaptainBeaky
Mine lives in the cabinet with bolt forward and the barrel off - because it won't fit in otherwise!
smokinggun
Mine has the bolt forward in the cabinet, when using it at the clay ground I just put it back in the slip unloaded when moving between stands i don't have a breech flag. kiffy
mine goes in bolt forward, although im the only one who has access to my safe i always check guns as they go in and come out of the safe just in case

Paulywauly
Check it going in....check it coming out. Same for any firearm. Bolt forward to rest spring.
TbirdX
Mine has its plug in even when in the cabinet. It's just never occurred to me to take it out really. It won't do any harm stored that way so whatever you're comfortable with.
Matt_
I store my al391 bolt forward but I release it slowly holding the charging handle in my hand and about half way release the trigger which softly hits the firing pin, bolt about halfway shut, that way there's not spring tension in my trigger group, firing pin or bolt return spring when it's all shut up, as said previous I'm the only one with access so know its empty but when it comes out I lock bolt back and safety flag in. bullet boy
Bolt closed on mine when stored to take pressure off the Spring and action.

Dekers
Bolt forward and trigger released...hold the bolt nearly closed and release trigger, takes the tension off and doesn't cause any dry firing stress!
Paulywauly
Good point about releasing the trigger. Im doing that from now on!
