Bird Identification

Hi Guys,

This will probably show my complete ignorance of garden birds but I've got a new arrival.

It has a blue/grey back and tail with an orange breast, moves and feeds just like a woodpecker.

I did a little search on woodpeckers and it doesn't match with anything that came up, unless it's a young version of one of the three native to the uk?

Over the last couple of days we've had two coming and going and they are great to watch, this is the first time in a couple of years we've seen anything like them.

Curious as to know what they are? Any ideas?

Sorry about the quality, iphone through window :-(

Thanks :good:

I love this place, thanks for the replies really appreciated :good:

Really glad the feeders are working, yesterday I was shouting at swmbo " WE'VE FINALLY GOT A WOODPECKER!!!!!"

All good, hopefully they'll stay a while.

To save wasting a thread maybe post some of your feeder pics?

Thanks again.

Sorry to correct you but the species are not related... Woodpeckers are of the Picidae family and Nuthatches of the Sittidae Family.. It does behave like a small woodpecker to some extent however.

And, as a useless (non!)tit-bit, it's the only bird that descends vertically down a tree. even the aptly named tree creeper doesn't do that.
