Davyo
Does anybody buy everything that comes onto the market,is most of it just over priced rubbish or do they work,do we really need it.Before all this stuff came onto the market did everyone get the same results with the basics.Does anyone still use the basics or have a lot of decoyers been tempted with all the stuff available. Christopher Polumbos
It's not all overpriced rubbish, the ff4 is great value for money when you consider how well it's made,(in the UK), the versatility, and how much better it works than other flappers on the market.and lets not forget, we are men...we like toys and gadgetts, it takes us back to our childhood, with our new toys. No one is ever, 'forced' to buy anything, tempted, or encouraged maybe.? I think confidence in your own abilities, fieldcraft, and experience, all lead to not needing to try everything new that comes on the market, but thre are thoses who just have to have the latest of what's on offer, theyv'e probably got the 60" plasma tv and stereo surround as well! motty
I don't buy all the new gadgets. Some are complete rubbish and are just a slight variation on what is already out there. I am confident that my current set up of Magnet, flappers, floaters and decoys will be enough to attract pigeons, whatever the situation. If they won't work for me, it's likely that nothing else will, either.
dead eye alan
Over the years I have invested in; 12 plastic shells 12 flocked shells 12 f.u.d's 8 full body's 2 turbo flappers 2 sillsock flying thingie's 12 sillsock decoy's 2 thingamegiges with wing's that rotate 2 magnets 2 peckers 24 cradles And a few other bits and bobs, now I only use the cradles, flappers, and occasionally the magnets, all with brested out birds. Bobba
I suspect answers depend on what you mean by "the basics"? I regard basics as decoys (shells &/or full bodied), a rotary and a couple of floaters or bouncers but not necessarily using the rotary or floaters all of the time depending how pigeons are misbehaving. As to new products and "do they work" or give better results, I suspect answers will be opinion rather than evidence quite simply because even with an identical set-up no two days are necessarily the same. What helps improve one day eg by adding a flapper you never used before, may not work on another day quite simply because pigeons behaviour is not predictable. linny
good point before, may not work on another day quite simply because pigeons behaviour is not predictable.

oldfeller
who is decoying who? the prices on some of the so called pigeon shooting equipment seems rather expensive and is the kit just meant to entice the shooter rather than the birds

lakeside1000
The most ridiculous and totally useless thing I bought was one of those spinning kite style decoys, made from cheap foam and painted not remotely like a pigeon, it needs a gale to keep it aloft and scares the hell out of any approaching birds, its too big to get in the decoy bag and is constantly losing control and crashing into the ground, I'm going to sell it on ebay as a garden bird scarer, it cost about £12 or 3 boxes of cartridges. what a waste. nobski
I often think the angler is hooked and not the fish. Thirty odd years ago if the merchandise had hutchy or other such name wrote on it you had to buy it whether it worked or not
Christopher Polumbos
Bought a Jack Pyke full bodied foam wing decoy and the swing attachement for Fleabay, I have never ever, everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. seen such a pile of poop in my life, the decoy body was split from earhole to breakfast time the clamp that was 'supposed' to attach it to the bouncer just fell into the threaded (just) hole. Phoned the seller, who asked me how big the package was.1.5m long.... (why didn't he know he sold it to me!). so he sent a returns bag. that was, how big? oh yeah let me think..........TEN INCHES LONG!!!!!!!!. phones him back, and was told to stick the bag to the box and take it to the post office, which I duly did. After waiting in a 25 minute que, I got to the counter and was promptly told that, " that stamp is for second class, small package, if you want to send that box it will cost you £13.80!!!". Draw breath................................................................. . Soooooooooooooo another phone call and was told he can't do anymore, and if I was that bothered, to open a claim, which I did... two weeks later got a full refund . What a palava! Mark74
Had my first day out in ages today and I had some new gear to play with: 3ply Ghost stealth net: pretty good & birds came in with confidence, only issue I found was I found it impossible to spot birds at a distance through it, indeed not easy when birds are close approaching decoys. Ended up swapping nets around giving me 6" of my realtree net at top to spot through. So can recommend for concealment but not the easiest net to look through. FUD & Ringer decoys: the birds certainly decoyed well to my pattern, on the whole I would say that they favoured the ringers (despite the sunshine) but of course this is not real test to see which is best 😊 but will certainly be using again. Only negative for FUDs is the red spike is hard to get into the ground, so will be looking to modify them. On the whole pleased with my additions! pigeon controller
Me being an old **** , I grew up with the system if you wanted it you either made it or saved and bought it. When I started carp fishing you made your own rods, bait, bite alarms etc . Then commercial interest started the " Tackle Tarts" Isn't that last years rod and reel?? I don't care what is on the bank the bit in the water is the important bit. When I started pigeon shooting twenty five years ago I bought plastic decoys, rubber decoys, flexible decoys as and when they were marketed. I met up with DB my shooting mate while I was fishing one day and went out with him shooting one day we used the plastics first thing to get the decoys then set up four manual flappers and used them and the birds we shot as decoys. Over the years we have made magnets , peckers for crows and flappers we did make a magnet that flapped and one that would rise and fall for use in the downed barley. We also had a flyer out of the trees that would swoop down into the pattern and draw birds from a distance. There are days that you just have to used static birds and no other bits and pieces. I think that tackle development is great and if it makes you more confident even better but at the end of the day would you want a decoy that pulled a consistent two hundred birds to your gun??? Fieldcraft that brings you fifty wild birds to your gun is much better.
