Fuj
Thinking of buying either a lanber or baikal shotgun as my first gun and was wondering out of the 2 which you think would be better? - both seem to fit nicely Thanks
Themacclad
Have a lanber. ... can't fault it..... excellent value for money
huds78
Don't know about the lanber but I know a couple of people that have had Baikals and they had no problems with them. Not the prettiest of guns but they went bang when they were supposed to
welshwarrior
Lanber good work horse gun that looks fine anywhere. Baikal strong rugged work horse gun made of old Russian Tank armour you won't mind knocking in the odd fence post with it. Tend to be low in comb. browning123
I recommend the Baikal shotguns - very hardwearing and never get any problems with them.
Therealchucknorris
I have both and the Lanber comes out of the cabinet 9 times out of 10. The only time the Baikal comes out is in foul weather or if I'm really really rough shooting.
sonicdmb
I have two Baikals soon to be three they won't win any prizes for looks but will last for ever tell a lie that's three to be four but one is a 222.

hoggysreels
If both quite old and well used .. "Baikal" for certain ... old Lanbers are far from trouble free ..
Gordon R
Lanbers are the best of the budget range. Baikal are in a class of their own. Rugged, well made and they will certainly last. Depends on your budget, but I would not discount a Baikal.
CaptainBeaky
If both quite old and well used .. "Baikal" for certain ... old Lanbers are far from trouble free ..Don't know much about Lanbers, but have had 3 Baikals, and still have 2 of them.1. Tough as a very tough thing, go bang every time. 2. Bit short of stock, but nothing a spacer can't sort out. 3. Balance can be a little odd, but a little lead in the right place works wonders. 4. Not the lightest of guns, especially given 3. above, but also see 1. 5. Cheap secondhand - if you don't like it, sell it on, without losing much in the process. Longbower
Baikal's (Russian Purdey's ) are a great shotgun. Lanber's come a close second mind. But I love Baikals , I can honestly say, All the Baikal's I have never misfired, of broken, If there ever was a gun you could rely on in a 'wilderness' situation it would be a twin trigger double barreled Baikal. My favorite 'Hedge walking" gun is a Baikal single barreled 12g (£30). Edited March 31, 2014 by Longbower

lambchop
Dont think can go wrong with either but as a previous lanber owner I am biased to lanber if had to pick but would be happy with either!
Fuj
+1 In all honesty I was expecting some different answers too 😉 I am surprised 😊
Livefast123
I bought a very cheap 1981 Lanber 2 years ago as my first gun with thoughts to upgrading after a few months. I still have it and have had no thoughts of upgrading....... My friend has a cheap Baikal and also loves it, so you can't really go wrong with either....but get the Lanber :-)
Therealchucknorris
Actually, I'm surprised no one has suggested this yet... Buy both - they won't break the bank between the pair of them and as they'll be your first guns you'll have space in the cabinet. If you buy one you'll always be wondering about the other one that got away. Plus it's good to have a choice!
Big Al
I have owned both and couldn't fault either. The Baikals are totally bomb proof though. If I had to chose one to absolutely depend on, it'd be the ugly Russian.
