army redundancies

If anything serious did kick off the Government will/is hoping, to rely on the TA, Army Reserve and conscription at a push.

I reckon Conscription will be a non starter anyway due to our Government's 'Open Door' policy on immigration and it's push for multi-culture-ism.

It could lead to a situation where our new 'British' population could be asked to fight their own relations, the ones that were too old or couldn't be bothered to come over here,. in the country of their parent's birth.

During the last war any 'non Brits' were interned, if they tried that during our next war, half the UK population would be Interned leaving us with no man power to fight !!

Our Government really doesn't seem to think things through, perhaps they are too busy filling in their expense claim forms !!

The British Government’s Defence Strategy, a personal perspective!

During the ‘Cold War’ the various governments of the day thought it prudent to be in a state of readiness in case it all ‘kicked off’ at any time and therefore employed the appropriate level of military might as a deterrent!

Now that all is well in the world and everything is in hand regarding our homeland security, terrorist threat potential and foreign intervention policy the government have, in their infinite wisdom decided that it makes sound economic and military sense to employ a strategy of diminishing the country’s defences.

This will eventually be reduced to the point where it will be relying on the ‘Boys Brigade’ and the ‘Girl Guide’ movements to fulfil our commitments to both ‘Defence of the Realm’ and protection of both our own and our allies overseas interest!

For those of you reading this and who may be concerned by the situation, have no fear, for I know that our government have a secret weapon that British governments that have come before them have been forced to use in the past, this has been deployed with great success, if it comes to the worst, and it will, they will unleash

If our governments would think before getting us involved in other peoples problems then we would not need to have a large Army just a good Airforce and Navy + marines to protect this Island that we live in and if the Americans want to go on pokeing there noses in where it does not belong that is up to them.

Easy enough. Make a thousand doctors and nurses redundant, close a half a dozen hospitals. Then we can keep our standing army at its present levels.

Get rid of half the poncing politicians,That would save a few bob

unfortunatly the way the EU is going power grabbing we will be engulfed in the United States of Europe army and as we are the only country ( besides Ireland ) that does not have conscripts what will happen when this occurs our new citizens will object they have come here to dodge the draft in their own country. i agree with four-wheel-drive

A very sad state of affairs. Then again you get what you vote for. Hope your next general election will turn things around for you.

Ha! if you believe that then you live in cloud cuckoo land.

They are all the same, they offer you the earth to get voted in, then once nicely seated in postion, they spend all their time cuddling up to the others.

Parliament is just one big boys club with different ways of getting in !!

I would rather do the jail time if it was a war for for oil and gas by politicians.

If it was for a cause like in 1939 think most would be queuing up to do their bit.

Figgy

doing your bit usually means your wife gets a flag on your box i doubt people are so keen to be shot at these days, gerry would have to be landing on the beaches before anyone would want to know

I think they can all (if you let them sit on the pitch) fit into Wembley football stadium.

A great shame, however you don't need an army if you have nukes, they are there for all the little things I guess, short of being invaded or all out war.

Not right bit it's the way it is. It wasn't that long ago when we had 20 battleships (proper ones at that as well) and they were enough.

People often say we don't need an army because we have a navy and an airforce, but after the bombing and shelling it is ground troops(the army) who have to go in and finish the job and then stabilise the situation, throughout history ground troops are always needed to do the dirty work, there is no such thing as a clean war,to believe that the navy and Air Force plus some marines are all we need is just wishful thinking .

Wars and battles are started by the air war, they are finished by the troops on the ground.

A lot of the army's commitments have reduced or ceased,BAOR,NI to name two, and it is right we reduce the army accordingly, but this farce about using reservists to prop up the army is dellusional, and I believe will come back to bite the government on the behind.

But then what do I know :)

Synchronised Armed Forces Europe (SAFE).

It's the future...We're cutting our armed forces to become a small (specialised) cog in a big wheel.

It's a long, drawn out process, but it is coming.

We already have the Eurocorps, EU Defence Agency, EU Rapid Reaction Force, European Air Group, European Maritime Force and EU Battlegroups.

Slowly slowly catchy monkey, and you won't even notice it's happening.

We are being taken over from within by stealth so we won't need an Army in the old sense of the word.

Have you not noticed most of the 'Officials' or people with some sort of authority all speak with a different 'accent' to the Queens English and look as if they have spent a week sun bathing in Spain.

Interesting book out by Robert Beevers about the attitude of the British army in WWII.

His view is that after 4 years of war, the Americans found us war weary, cautious in attack and very rigid in our operation i.e sappers did their role, infantry theirs etc.

Unusual view..
