fenboy
I think we were all mostly expecting harvest to be early this year , I was still surprised to see one of my farmers combining his wheat today , I have never known it to be so early around here. Even more surprising is the fact his harvest peas have been desiccated and look like they will be cut in the next week or so , its always been September before the peas were started before now. Fisherman Mike
Back in the good old days (70's) School holidays in late July and early August were always spent on the straw bale cart.
Whitebridges
The grain merchants around here are busy busy. Barley, OSR and wheat ready at the same time. Plus farmers are running scared it might rain like the devil at any time. Edited July 27, 2014 by Whitebridges
THE MEK
Supposed to start combining in the morning but last nights and today's heavy showers have delayed that
ben0850
We have been flat out for over five days on the winter barley, another two days will see us caught up then a slight pause for the spring stuff. It's at least two / three weeks early compared to the last few years and clashing with hay!

Big Mat
I've seen them out on the OSR combining in the last week but no wheat or barley yet. Sounds like you might get a good chance on the pigeons then!

kyska
Rape done, cultivated and ploughed within 3 days! Big bits of kit and lots of manpower, little shooting though. Wheat shouldn't be long.

Even more surprising is the fact his harvest peas have been desiccated and look like they will be cut in the next week or so , its always been September before the peas were started before now. They have started on the peas locally now. Myself and one of the lorries almost had a little accident this morning when they came round a blind corner too fast. marsh man
The first combine went down the marsh yesterday to start on the wheat, very early to be down there in July normally around 2nd week in August, with the machinery there got today the stubbles are not there long enough to get a decent bag of pigeons as wheat straw is chopped up behind the combine and the tractor will nigh on follow the combine starting sub soiling ect. NickB65
All our rape is in and a bumper year at that even with half of one field scrapped due to flea beetle - wheat is 70% in already. Just need to get the remainder in before the rain. Must admit I normally help out as it can be a long day for my father in-law but as there has been no rush they have not needed to do long crazy days so they have not needed me :-( I will just have to be content in shooting instead..... M ROBSON
Our first rape stubble was on the 28th July this year, I remember about 6 or 7 years ago after a wet summer the first rape stubble was 16th August....
ShropshireSam
Winter barley and rape all cut in Shropshire. A few wheat fields gone and surprisingly, pea fields cut this week. Need to keep an eye on them as plenty of peas on the gound....just hope the stubble lasts in time for the pigeon numbers to build.
